Default My new turbo setup

This will be my first FI setup and I want to know what you guys think. I would also like to know if this internal wastegate will be sufficient for the boost levels I plan to run (over 15 psi), or will I have boost control problems.

The setup is:
B18c darton sleeves
81.5mm endyn low compression pistons
eagle rods
ported gsr head
stock gsr cams
str intake manifold
hondata
550cc bosch injectors
greddy turbo kit with upgraded front mount intercooler
Greddy 18G upgraded to 20G

also, if i need to upgrade to an external wastegate would i be able to weld a flange onto the greddy manifold instead of buying a whole new manifold?

my setups gonna be like EXACTLY like yours except i have full valvetrain + 84.5MM golden eagle sleeves......i have 550 rc's..

question, where did you get your 18g wheel upgraded to 20g and how much did it run you?

not sure..i bought it from a friend. I'll find out for you.

btw...in the pic it looks like the pistons are in the wrong cylinders, but they aren't..thats the way the machine shop said they labeld them. Left to right instead of right to left. I mic'd them myself to be sure.

Sounds like a nice setup.

is that a picture of your sleeved motor? if so, it looks more like factory sleeves with a nuformz blockguard than darton sleeves.

Why not get an externall wastegate? Isnt that safer? does that waste gate open?

I never have used Endyn pistons but aren't those pistons in backwards? I thought the open trench on the piston was for the intake side. If so, they should be facing the other direction in the block. That would also mean that the machine shop did label them correctly. Am I wrong on the pistons? Make sure the bearing tang on the rods is facing the exhaust side. Looks like a block guard to me also. Not enough open space for coolant to travel freely.

Darton sleeves look like this.

You can see it says nuformz right on the block-guard.

Man...I sure hope you didn't buy that motor off someone thinking it had Darton Sleeves and Endyn Pistons. Looks ALOT like a Block Guard with Stock Sleeves.

Someone gave ya the old screwgy...

the pistons are in correctly, the trench deflects exhaust gases across the pistons back towards the intake side, increasing burn efficiency, at least so says the endyn site.

Yes those are darton open deck sleeves with the nuformz blockgaurd, look a lot like stock sleeves, i know. The pistons are in correctly, and yes the bearing locking tangs on the rods should always be facing the exhaust side.

anyone know about my wastegate question? am i going to have problems with boost control with the internal wastegate at higher levels of boost, and what can I do to prevent boost creep/spiking with this wastegate?

OK, thanks...I thought the trench was used for quicker flame travel across the intake side of the piston (like V-8's). Maybe that will be Endyn's next design.

IMHO, you should not use a block guard with sleeves. If the sleeves are correct, they should be good for well over 30 lbs of boost. PLUS, the guard will make that motor run way too hot by restricting flow around the sleeves and also will cause a hot spot inside the cylinder where u least want it to be hot (at the top).
Take your manifold to a good machine shop and see if it can be welded so to add an external waste gate. You'll be happy with the extra control options of the external gate. Ever see a quick car without an ext. gate?

you need larger injectors. 650cc or greater. Didn't see a adjustable regulator in there anywhere, you're gonna need that too.

Yeah, that's very odd...Looks like stock sleeves and a Nuformz block guard to me, but whatevers clevers...

Internal wastegates don't really hold boost very well. You might get boost spikes....see if you can get it redone to accept a external wastegate. Use a Tial....like most of the people use on this board. HTH

...careful Willis... the educated crowd is fickle...

...I wouldn't use the internal wastegate for your application... I'd drop the extra cheeze for an external wg and plumbing...

thats what I would like to know. If anyone has had their greddy kit converted to an external wastegate setup please let me know.
