Default is my motor safe to boost?

To some this is proably a pretty stupid question, but i am going to ask it anyways. So i have a 96 rs with 130,000 on the clock. i am hoping to boost it by spring break, but i dont know if the bottom end can handle it. I am only planning to run arround 6lbs, and 8 at most. Also i was wondering if someone would care to help me peice one together. the kits just seem a little to pricey for me. So any help would be much appreciated.

do a compression and leak down test. if they pass, boost away.
