Would this design work decent on a 50 trim looking for mid 300HP on a 1.8l?

Im only asking because I haven't seen much like this and it looks to be built well and is very affordable.

Re: Log/Mini Ram

depends on what it's made out of. if it's a thick 304 or better stainless, sure, my only concern is the WG placement forces a half rad and the design doesn't have any advantage that i can see over an iron log

I went with this style.

It produced these results.

Virtually no creep.

Re: Log/Mini Ram

Car currently has a half rad, so that shouldn't be an issue. I agree it doesn't offer a whole lot over a log other than it does offer a direction for the flow and has somewhat of a collector.

I was also looking at the Mazworx DIY kits but I am very a inexperienced welder.

Re: Log/Mini Ram

A friend and I cut and tacked it together. Then I took it to a welder. The total cost was very reasonable.

Re: Log/Mini Ram

what is reasonable for cost? inline pro cast is $375 and forged performance will sell you a miniram for $400

Is there anything different you would have done?

Re: Log/Mini Ram

If not, SLS and Spoolin' performance will do 300whp like its nothing. Even the Schedule 10 "log" manifolds will do just fine for 300whp. I like the SLS "equal length shorty" that you originally showed here, but it does put the turbo very low relative to the oil pan for a proper return line.

Costs depends on your wallet and I won't discuss here except to say it cost me less than what you just posted. I made mine for the sake of the experience.

Designwise, no. It makes the power and holds boost with no creep. Executionwise, I would recommend a very good chop saw or plasma cutter. The more accurate cuts will produce a better looking manifold.

Yes, mac is right about the oil line being low.
My fab guy told me that would be one of the things I'd have to sacrafice if i wanted a mini-ram over a full-ram manifold design. I paid $500 for mine.

I'm sure right now you should be able to get a nice mini-ram for $400-450ish

One of the MN guys makes those kind of manifolds for $350.
But i always thought it wasn't all that worth it because the runners don't merge together.
To me it looks like an overpriced log manifold.

with that said, the deign works find for 300hp, heck even cast ebay manifold have been used on +300whp setups.

However, when getting a better flowing manifold you uncork free whp.

Re: Log/Mini Ram

Charlie Moua, thanks for the photos!

The speed factory certainly looks to have the smoothest and direct transition into the turbo inlet, but also looks to be the lowest hanging of the bunch. Has anyone come up with a decent drain route for the shortys??

The other manifold I had been looking at in my price range was the SPA cast top mount, but a lack of anyone actually using them has kept me from serious consideration.

Which MN guys do you speak of?

Yeah I realize a cast manifold would be sufficient, but not likely the most efficient route. IMO (which is very light) the runner routing the exhaust into the turbo is reason enough to go with the mini/log setup over a straight log where exhaust gasses will be opposing.

I haven't talked to him for over a year. He's in SD and use to work for SLS , his name is Matt.
he actually made those picture #2-3.

If the SPA manifold was cheaper I would consider it for my brothers B20 build, but for that price I'm better off getting a regular cast manifold. Once you get into the $300 range for a manifold, it better be a used mini-ram.

I'll be honest with you, I would love it if someone made a mini-ram topmount... that would sell well for guys who like the flow of mini-ram and for those guys wanting to showoff their turbos up top.. lol

Any questions you might have regarding the SPA cast Top Mount manifold...ask Turbo-LS.
IIRC he is currently using one with good results.

He usually hangs out in the "LST / LS-T Turbo B18A B18B setups" thread

The setup I have for my new build is mini-ram with back door inter cooler. the setup was built by Go-Autoworks.

Have you installed this yet? Turbo? Oil drain issues?

Re: Log/Mini Ram

For 300hp, this manifold (log) would be fine.

The short runners would compliment smaller turbos great.

However, the mini ram manifolds are a nice middle ground between logs and equal length manifolds. Cant go wrong with either for 300hp
