lets talk race gas
ok i need some things cleared up
my built turbo car will be running in a week or so and i plain on running race gas.
first off i can get it cheep and i live out on the open roads of the country. were the cops are not bad. no-cat for me.
first question. if you guys had it your way what octain would you run.
how much can you safely turn up the boost with that octain.
if you have a fully built setup with fule in check how much psi is a good start with what ever octain you sugest.
thanks just want to be clear on what the advantage are becuase i know there is a lot of hp to be had out of 100pluse octain just dont know if you can run it safe all day.

I'm no pro on the matter .... But around here (I also don't bother running with a CAT) we can get 103 octane unleaded race fuel... it's 10 CDN/gallon... nice stuff... adjusted my timing back to stock, no retard/boost or anything and run 10psi perfectly... not a hint of detonation....
I've never actually played with it's limitations though... i can't afford to be on the wild side with my daily driver...
Personally, if it wernt so expensive I would run it all the time.... I've even consider mixing it with regular fillups... via a 450 barrel (or whatever it is).... VP Fuels will deliver it to you door....

You can run 103 unleaded from VP, Sunoco, 76, etc... all day long. A lot of the other stuff is not good to run all the time. Most gas with higher octane is leaded which is not good for O2 sensors and the unleaded stuff that has higher octane is corosive and should not be left in your stock fuel tank for long periods of time.
The amount of boost always depands on the amount of fuel and tuning. But you should be able to go 2-4psi higher on 103 vs 92.
Using proper coating on pistons and valves can also go a long way to reducing hot spots and running more boost.
there is one SC NSX guy in town that buys VP 103 by the barrel and you can save quite a bit by buying in bulk.

well that sucks that ledded fule kills o2 sensor.
i was plaining on running turbo-blue 115oct. and 93 mixed to get around 100+oct.
so the best bet would be get unleaded race fule to run all day long.
when i say all-day i mean thats all you run i will only have the car running for 1/2 hour or so.
