What do most run? Ive got my K&N from my AEM but I think I read that the oil based filters are bad for turbo????? (sounds kinda stoopid to me).
but the main reason im hesitant to run it is because it has a closed end(its flat) it doesnt have a cone in the center,so im thinking that will effect air flow. OR am I just on crack, and I can use my k&n?

Re: I What air filter? (BoM)
there's a cool page somewhere out there that compares the filtering abilities of different performance filters and the Apexi was by far the best...I'd go with that. I'd rather lose 1hp and have my motor be happy than risk having something crappy happen (says the man running the cheap-o cone filter, but switching to Apexi)

HKS and Greddy are both foam and they are total pieces of ****.

Please, please, please do not use these overpriced pieces of garbage. I'd rather have no filter than one of these.

K&N air fine. Apexi IMO are just overpriced copies of the K&Ns that supposedly filter better.

I'd like to know where the heck you get your opinion from?
What is it you dont like about foam filers? the fact that they catch more dirt,
or the fact that they flow more air?

well, first off, an opinion is an opinion. one doesn't have to get it from anywhere, it just kinda happens.

second, what i don't like about foam filters is the fact that they fall apart and little pieces of foam destroy your compressor wheel.

apexi filters are NOTHING like the k&n's expect they share the pink ish color....apexi filters are dry element and control air flow/turbulance etc, which is how they flow better AND filter better

Re: I What air filter? (AkumaY)
K&N for life

My B20B/VTEC Civic uses a big K&N cone filter.
My B20B/VTEC turbo Integra will also use a big K&N cone filter.

Plus I have a friend who can wash/clean them for me for free

IMHO, K&N is not the best in terms of performance, but it is up there at the top.. sure something like a Blitz SUS filter will allow for better air flow and more power, but it still allows small dust particles and other such things to pass through it, and I'm not someone who likes to change my engine oil on a "very regular" basis..

Re: I What air filter? (turbopanda)
I cant really say to much on the Quality of K&N air filters, but there oil filters are crap. I saw a guy blow his motor cause no oil pressure because the kn oil filers colapsed. I think the HKS foam one is bad ***. It has the round mushroom shape runner which is how air wants to flow on an intake. Back when I had a turbo street car, thats what I ran and it did a great job as a filter. I used to clean it and I could see all the dirt it trapped. Plus if nothing else, it does a good job of just plain out keeping rocks out. Also, it is a little shorter in design which might be a little easier to mount.

Re: I What air filter? (SiRkid)
It's not an opinion. Foam filters were here waaaaaaay before K&N was. They flow worse, they filter worse, and the can become brittle and break apart. Ever seen one on top of a carbueretor when it backfires? The ******* catch on fire.

I'm sure the reason Greddy and HKS like them so much is that there were no R^D costs and the things clost like $2 a piece to make. Then how much do they charge you?

The only opinion here is that I don't see any reason to get an Apexi or Blitz or whatever. Honestly I don't see how a dry element gauze filter could filter better than a K&N, but whatever. Foam filters are worse than paper, but it's your motor so it's up to you. IMO there's only so much you can do to with an airfilter to make horsepower. Show me how much difference they make on a dyno because they "direct air" or whatever and then I'll believe you.
