Default How many people run open loop wastegate setup?

Just curious how many people are dumping to the atmosphere and if it is true about the added power of doing it that way?

Also what are people doing about the shitty noise it makes underhood? Any other positives or negatives worth considering?

Thinking about it also--need more of a sleeper effect I think.

I am currently but will get a dump tube made soon. I don't want all the soot getting all over the engine.

Mine is open, and it is ok. I really need to find a flexpipe that fits to extend it below my engine.

Only gripes I have is the fact that it gets the engine dirty, and it covers the sound of the turbo spooling!

I'm open loop with a tial.... all I have is a 90degree elbow so that its not shooting exhaust all over my powersteering pulley/belt and radiator.... instead it kinda shoots down at the A/C hehe.

Anyway I have a stock exhaust which blows in terms of spooling and what not... but the advantage of that is its REALLY quiet so ALL I hear is that screaming of my big sexy turbo spooling up, then eventually that mass air rushing sound, and if I hit full boost before I shift I get the CCCCCUUUSSSHHHHHHHHHH sound of the wastegate between shifts (its not my BOV, I have an automatic so it doesn't go off anyway, and it sounds like a flutter). It sounds damn good, I wouldn't know if having an open loop wastegate makes a power difference that is even worth talking about though.

My friend still has the delta on his integra so we can compare the 2. the tial sounds much more agressive its alot harsher. I would not advise anyone driving by a wall like on a bridge witht he car at wot its super loud and you cant hear ****. but when theres nothing to reflect the sounds its sweet as hell!

LOL! think your right... maybe I should have asked who isnt.

here I thought many people did not run it that way for the emissions, sound and all that crap.

Anyone know if you fasion a downtube to blow it out low in the engine bay if it would mess anything up or kill the performance aspect off of being open loop?

EDIT

I hate the 5 post limit I have... When do I get out of this newbie trial poo poo.

I have to say that open dump is the ****!! If your not boosting and just driving regularly my car is pritty quiet with the Thermal 3" but than when you get on it and start boosting that wastgate just opens up and sounds like a freaking monster...

Open loop here with the Tial gate. I love the sound when that bad boy opens up! I have been thinking of putting lawn motor muffler on it, but i am going to get a new mandrel bent dumptube from max-rev...i will just get one welded to that when it arrives. I have always wondered what the 40mm and 46mm Tial gates sound when they open, open loop...

I have the 46mm open dump setup and it sounds vicious when the w/g opens up. If ur goin for tha sleeper effect then i would recommend against it but if u want a sweet almost high pitch rumble (if u can imagine that sound) I would highly recommend it.

I have the 46mm open dump setup ...
Hey, what spring and bar are u using with yours? The one i got had a 1.3 bar and that was too high for low boost, so i took one of the bigger spring inside, i wonder if u kept yours?

1.3 bar spring??? lol thats far from "low boost" more like .45bar spring or smaller would be suitable...
