HELP?!?? ITS EVERYWHERE!
Rust that is...
Ive had my car sitting in front of my house for about a month now since ive been away at school and i came home to look at it...and there is RUST everywhere....its only surface rust but its still annoying to have a pretty silver finish turn orange and brown...especially on my new turbo....
What should i do to clean it WD40 and a wire brush?
Is there anythign i can do to prevent it from happening in teh future..paint/coating?

Put a Zinc cathode around the exhaust at some point. I don't know why more car owners don't follow the anti-rust practices that have been used in the boating industry for 100 years!
Thats what mild steel will do.
I bet if you get it hot, alot on the turbo will come off.
Other then that, paint your IC pipe or replace with stainless/aluminum

what turbo are you running?...looks like a precission, reason I ask is my sc50 turbine section has a silver looking coat on it and was thinking it must coated from the factory, but not sure. I want to know if yours(turbine section) was silver before you installed it.
I think zinc cathode is that plate that sits on the Lower unit of a boat motor(the part that sits in the water). I thought the purpose of the zinc plate was to attract barnacles so they dont grow on the foot. I didnt think it was for rust

ya...it was a brand new sc50...heres what it looked like b4...all perrdy
So all i should do is take some high temp paint to it?....is it safe on everyhting...i still want the turbo to have a natural finish....does anyone have any pics of their setups?

you don't have to have a show car to get your turbo housing jet hot coated. granted yes it is a bit pricey but it will 1 protect your turbo from rust later on and 2 it will help your spool time get faster. minimal but it still serves a purpose than just makin it pretty.
lol..ya it sucks..i opened my hood and was like WTF!?!
but ya i heard of that jet coating...i heard it reduces temps like no other..so im guessing it would only help if i had my manifold done or the turbo housing.

I just used the high temp engine paint from Wal-mart (1500). Taped off the manifold and turbine housing, painted em' up, threw em in the oven on high for a while. Looked great. I just don't have the money for a "coating" but I don't like rust either.

Simple explanation: Rust is an electrochemical reaction. That means that a very tiny current is developed as something rusts. Any water (except distilled) will cause rust. Why? Because water conducts electricity and allows the chemical reaction to occur. Salt water simply speeds up the process because salt water is a much better conductor than fresh water.
What a zinc cathode does is to prevent the iron from oxidizing, simply by drawing the reaction to itself. Zinc is a more electronegative element than iron and wants to form an oxide more than iron does, in other words.
The zinc is often called a "sacrificial electrode" for this reason. Basically you attach a zinc to the steel, and the zinc will corrode instead of the steel. You just replace it when it gets badly corroded. (several may be needed)
