Fuel setup
i'm new to this turbo scene, so please help me out a lil'..i've done searches but still need some help on my fuel setup.
i only plan to run about 5 psi on my integra LS daily
i have a cartech adjustable FMU, is this ok to use or would it be better to sell it and get a vortech FMU? would i be better off with the 12:1 or 8:1? on my car right now i already have a b&m FPR.
lastly, do i really need to get an inline fuel pump runnin' 5psi? if so, what would you guys reccommend for my setup? airtex, msd?

Are you running stock injectors? How does the Cartech adj FMU work exactly? Can you dial it in to 12:1? If you're running stock injectors, you'll want a 12:1 and an inline pump. Even at 40psi of static fuel pressure, when you add in 5lbs of boost multiplied 12 times by the FMU(60psi), you get 100psi of fuel pressure, which your stock pump won't be able to provide.
yeah..i'll be running stock injectors. i'm not exactly sure how the cartech FMU works, all i know is that there are two valves on the FMU for adjusting. i've read a few post that say this thing sucks. i kind of just want to get a vortech FMU so i don't have to worry about the adjusting features on the cartech, unless this cartech FMU is actually good
if anyone knows about the cartech FMU...theres two number on the back of it, one is "207" and the other is "2000.5" or somethin'....

Your options...
1. Get a vortech FMU (12:1), inline pump, adjust the fpr to around 40psi
2. Get AFC (either vafc or safc depending if your vtec or not), and 310 or 370 injectors, inline pump would be nice, or a new intank.
3. Get real, and get standalone the first time so you have nothing to get rid off because you wasted your money on it.... standalone is good for 20lbs of boost as well as 5lbs... its a worthwhile investment. I wish I did it

Good to hear from someone running the Cartech fmu on a Honda. I have a BEGI adjustable fuel pressure regulator (BEGI and Cartech same, companies of Corky Bell) on my non-honda turbo car. Seems like the early Cartech/BEGI fmus were not liked as much as the later ones. Here's some of what I went through in tuning it:
What gauges do you have to tune it? A fuel pressure gauge and air/fuel ratio gauge help. One of those valves (should be the bigger one in the center of the unit with a retaining nut and fitting for an allen wrench) on the fmu should be for the static or base fuel pressure and the other valve should be the boost fuel pressure. You first want to adjust your base fuel pressure...this is the pressure with the vacuum hose removed. Loosen the retaining nut and with allen wrench turn in small increments...around 50psi seems to be the norm. When you connect that vacuum line back on, the fuel pressure should drop back down to normal for your car at idle.
Next you want to tune fuel pressure under boost using the other adjuster. I believe it acts like this: turn clockwise=more fp, counterclockwise=less fp...do it in half turn increments. The only way I've done this kind of tune is by a road test with a passenger calling out fuel pressure while I watch boost. You basically want to watch how fuel pressure acts when you go into boost and at your max boost (5psi). The formula I would use to calculate your fuel pressure under boost is this: base + (6*max boost). So you would do something like this: 50 + (6*5) = 80psi. During your road test, fp should rise when you go into 1psi, 2psi+ of boost, then at 5psi you should be around 80psi. Oh yeah, don't forget to keep an eye on your air/fuel gauge to make sure you're in rich while in boost.
Can someone else confirm that I'm making sense to this guy?
Disclaimer: this is what worked for my car and may not work for yours. If you totally hate the Cartech unit, I can try to help you find someone to buy it. I've been boosting at 6psi for a year (15k miles) and now at 8psi....things are ok.

thanx for all the info!
i don't hate the Cartech, i've just heard people talk bad about it. i was thinkin' i could just sell it and get the vortech 12:1 FMU since i already have a FPR to adjust the fuel.
if you know someone who wants it, let me know. i put it in the classifieds already, i'm not sure how much its worth, but just let me know if you find someone interested.
