Default Flywheel Options? Looking for some insight.

Hey guys, I think it's time for me to finally spend the extra bux on a flywheel. My stock flywheel has been seeing quite a bit of abuse of the years. It has seen 3 performance clutch kits and is now showing stress cracks in the contact surface.

My last act 6 puck wore pre-maturly and i'm assuming that this is why.

Anyways, i'm going to buy another clutch disk and i'm thinking i need to look into flywheels.

My car currently puts down 460whp when i take it to the track with the slicks on it, and is drivin on the street in the 350whp area. This not a daily driver. Once in a great while I drive it work, but most of it's action is in the evenings out playin around down town, or when i take it to the track a few times a year to beat on it.

I need some ideas, or pros & cons to go along with some flywheels so that i can make a good selection.

Things to factor in.
- quality
- application based on weight
- price

go!

only used 3 different flywheels. stock, clutch masters aluminum, and the chromoly exedy for the twin disc.

had success with all 3.

i dont have much insight as to light vs heavy yadda yadda.

i will tell you this. dont use a lightened stock one, i have a fear of explosions, and use an SFI Spec'd one. again see past comment.

Yea, i agree with you on not using a lightened stock one. Thats not even an option here.

If I buy an after market, i will probably buy something a little lighter than stock but i've been looking around and seeing prices between 100 (ebay generic) - 220 ish (act / exedy), and i wanna try to figure out what i should be running.

Anyone else wanna chime in here?

I've got the lightest Fidanza and I love it... all the banter about RPM's dropping and whatnot is pretty silly IMO. If it's mainly a drag car then I wouldn't go with the lightest but I also wouldn't worry about using a lightened one.

you'll hear a lot of people talk ish about what I'm going to say but we all know that most people don't know anything and do stupid stuff. I've run three F1 10lb chromemoly flywheels, 2 in hondas and 1 in another car, and I've ALWAYS had great luck with them, I always used their clutches also and bought from gripforce. The fastest honda I used one in was only 200hp but the other car was much faster. One of them has been installed now for 40k miles and still grabs like new. 10lb made a HUGE difference vs. stock. just don't get a two piece flywheel whatever you do. much less reliable. search and you'll see. just get a one piece billet steel or chromemoly

whatever you do get, dont go any lighter then 10-12 lbs. you want the rotating mass, especially at the track.

What happens if you go lighter? Like with a 8.5LB flywheel?

it reduces boost response when coming back into gear after upshifting i guess is the best way i can think of it.

my car is very similar to yours, 430 hp higher boost, 352hp lower boost, 6 puck etc...

get yourself an oem itr flywheel. i believe they are 12 lbs and are noticeably lighter than the ls or other b series. ive got 2 of them now one in each of my motors and i think i got one for 50 bucks and the other for 60 bucks.
