Default Emmisions and the EMS

Hi guys I am looking for some insite here. Emmisions is starting here this spring and its the worst kind.. Its strictly a scheme to make more money and not actually help the environment. The deal is you have to have the stock smog equipment. Ok no biggie. Next they hook the computer up and run a check on it. Will the aem EMS do the checks or not? I wasn't sure since its a stand alone. Will it still light up the check eng light on start up? That is another gay must. So while all the dodge mini vans are puffing away my clean running turbo integ might be illegal. Thanks for any input. What do all you Cali guys to about emmisions?

Are you sure they are having emissions in spring? I live in mechanicsburg and haven't heard of anything about it yet. In anycase I'm from philly and how we used to get it passed was goto a shady shop that'll charge you like 50 bucks for emissions and inspection. If it hooks up to the ecu..just swap ecu's on the spot...but thats assuming they wanna help you out.

Yeah man its coming. MY buddy works for zimmermans garage and they have been training. They were just informed that the machine will be sent out for certification/inspection and when it comes back they are to start emission testing. they are talking like its very soon.

the only problem with that is with large injectors the car won't run with the stock ecu in. There are a few other ways around it. 1) if you put less than 5000 miles on in a year your exempt. 2) pay $250 towards fixing it. the trick is it has to be towards fixing the problem.

damn man that sucks hard core...all of us were so happy when we moved from philly up here .. Oh well looks like we gotta start getting our cars tested in philly again. Its simple...most of the time they'll pass visual inspection on the spot..emissions all they do is use another car that has passed and smog that one again..

its my understanding that the check engine light never comes on with the aem ems, unless you have it set at a certain rpm for a shift light. am i right or wrong? very interested since i hate emissions with a passion.

Make a check engine light come on and then off on start up is easy to wire up. The problem is going to be with obdII cars..where they plug the smog computer into the car to run diags. Think of the smog machine as a datalogger.

Im have a new project which im starting and im going to be using the EMS (its not a honda..but no hints ) and ive been trying to figure out what im going to do about smog. Anybody know if the ems will output for the datalink to the smog machines?

I wonder if you could piggy back the stock ECU for obdII datalink issues..?

We'll in houston they have to plug in a scanner to your plug underneath the steering wheel to check for codes. The AEM will not recognize any of this. I all got was NA all across the sheet they printed out. Your best bet is to plug in the stock ecu. Or better yet have your friend pull some strings!

If you want the CEL to come on you can just wire it to the oil light... hehe. But they'd actually have to start the car for it to go out.

I just got my truck smogged and my buddy said that all 96 and newer cars have to be plugged into the diagnostic port under the dash. If your CEL is on then you automatically fail. If you reset it prior to going in then you should be ok. It scans all the sensor and what not. Interesting to see how Greddy's blue box and the SMC fair when its time to get checked. Don't forget the visuals also.

Actually i was not doing an emmission test. My friend does emmission's test and we were just seeing if it would pass with the EMS. So no it will not. Like I said, they are going to plug up a scanner to the port underneath the steering wheel and check for codes. Even though my check engine light was not on, we pluged up the scanner and everything came up N/A. So your best bet is to plug in the stock ecu, if it will run right, or slip someone a couple of twenty's !
