Default EGT probes

any ideas with installation on a cast manifold? compression fitting, clamp, threaded bung?

Cast manifold should have the wall thickness to drill and tap. That how I ran my EGT on my old Revhard mani back in the day.

It's just about pointless in a cast manifold to have 4 egt sensors. You'll be picking up bad data due to the manifold design.

Either way be sure to bevel the edges on both sides of the hole with a stone or what have you. Also be sure to work the tap and use plenty of lube. Aside from heating the manifold this will give you every chance to prevent cracking overtime. Nature of the design though...

that is precisely what i am worried about. i know about as much of cast iron as it takes to cook meat on it, that's it

The runners are not truely separated and you'll get heat from the other cylinders corrupting your individual sensors.

absolutely. Get it on the leanest cylinder (#3) and call it a wrap. I've had one EGT for 15 years. It didn't matter. Being redundant just to be redundant is....well redundant, and doesn't give you any more information than from one. You're not running meth/water individually, so there's no point. Just one will do.

i am used to reading each cylinder on an aircraft and with the ability to trim each cylinder my plan was to make sure they are all running the same.

that's fine,if you choose, but again.. you won't see much change in the controlability. As much as you Airmen love to compare cars to planes.. It just ain't the same.

But in this case your equipment (specifically your exhaust manifold) will skew your readings. Use one, or change exhaust manifolds to one that supports that type of monitoring.

It would be fine if you had longer runners and were really seeing INDIVIDUAL egt's, but with a cast manifold, you wont see that because they share a common plenum.
