Default Downshift w/ turbo?

I was reading somewhere and it said that you can't downshift when you're running a turbo. Is this true? Could you damage your motor or turbo by downshifting?

I don't see why it would. There has to be load on the motor to build boost. If you simply downshift, your rpms climb, but you're not boosting. It should be fine.

That would suck if you weren't supposed to downshift with a turbo.

just downshift smart.

downshifting into 3rd while going 80 isn't smart. u'll be at 7k rpms.
downshifting into 4th would be better u'll be directly into boost
depending on your turbo

What's so bad about downshifting to 7k rpm?

Rev it to 9, it'll take it if it's built right!

Of course you cannot downshift with a turbo!

In fact, ever since I put the turbo on I have just left the car in 5th gear... Sometimes starting from a stop sucks in 5th gear, but you get used to it... the honking from all the cars behind you gets annoying sometimes, though.

Basically, the turbo system disables all gears fourth and below in the transmission.

Now, on a more serious note..

Of /course/ you can downshift. You will accelerate the fastest by going to the lowest gear possible to keep your revs below the rev limiter! It's called gearing.

And no, at 80mph (assuming a GSR) you would definately want to put it in 3rd gear, not fourth. If I hear the phrase "Cause it keeps you in boost longer" once more I am going to shoot myself in the head.

very funny!
... that stuff about disabling fourth and below...
So it's a two speed, forward and reverse!

Turbo doesn't work in reverse... all the power is blown out the blow off valve in reverse... You have to push the car if you need to back up...

with or without turbo it dont make a diff if you downshift, true itll add more ware and tear to motor and drivetrain but its the same with or without the turbo, also, there are a ton of road race cars that use Turbos, that downshift hundreds of times in a race.

I believe they use mega-volume adjustable anti-chirp valves.
Or was it that they do chirp?

LS transmission + JRSC, and you'll be running nines.

Tom, when you had the LS transmission, I told you ya had a whole in your fuel curve. You need to lengthen the injected pulse!!!!!

You mess with the bull, you get the horns!!!!!
