Downpipe Issues ...

Alright guys i'm ending the near of the road for my turbo setup & the last thing i need is a downpipe, this being one of the harder things to chase down. Well browsing around ebay for the past month or so i've been seeing alot of (dare i say it ?) SSAutochrome downpipes for about 120 or so shipped which isn't to bad for a new downpipe but me keeping in mind it is SSAutochrome & they don't exactly have the best track record, but i guess my question is ...

is there really anyways they could mess up making a downpipe ? ...

would you run the downpipe ? ...

my girlfriends willing to buy it so it's not really a loss out of my wallet but i'm just wondering if it's worth the hassle or not cause for right now i'm leaning towards trying it out ...

here's the info ...

a downpipe really needs to be custom made for whatever manifold you are using

yeah i was thinking that thing is , the muffler shops around here really don't make downpipes which is why i'm looking to purchase one pre-made

any other thoughts ? ...

now i dont know from experience or nothing, but from what ive read around, the problem with ssautoshit is the welds arent good. i mean it would suck that youve waited this long haul to get parts and put it on and t just pops off at the flange. if you dont mind spending a lil bit more money, go with a spoolinperformance downpipe. i got mine for 300. its an 3' ac compatible dp with 2 o2 bungs. yea a lil expensive for some pipes and welds, but hey, its good shit!!

yeah , i dunno .

I'm really leaning towards it, god forbid me .

I mean pros is i'll finally have the pre-made down pipe & i'll be pretty damn near done w/ gathering the kit cons it's SS Autochrome .

decisions .... decisions .

i wouldn't get it. SS autocrap and who knows how good the fit is with the particular manifold you are using

contact phil at spoolin performance (project dc2). chances are he can fab what you need

Re: Downpipe Issues ... (eg8kid)

well i started looking around elsewhere for another downpipe but i recieved some bad news ...

apparently my girlfriend bidded on the downpipe which i'll most likely win, last night . Told her i changed my mind and went to go retract her bid turns out i'm stuck w/ the bid since there's less that 12 hours left to go on the auction .

guess i'll be running the ssautochrome downpipe , i'll be sure to do some reviews and take some more pix ... SSautochrome not for t3h w!n https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif .

wish me luck https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

good thing is atleast i gotta downpipe https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: Downpipe Issues ... (eg8kid)

what manifold you have >?

wanna bid 50$ it wont fit ? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif sorry for your loss.

yee SERIOUS May 4, 2006 09:18 AM

yeah i don't think that dp is gonna work for your manifold. that dp is most likely for SSAC's ramhorn manifold. you're gonna have to cut and reweld to make it work for your setup. you should've just PM'd someone to fab one up for you. hulkhb just made dp with an ecutout for a drag manifold a few weeks ago for my cousin. looked sexy as hell.

Re: (undercoverdc2)

Take some measurements and estimates, then make a solid model in Solid Works, then see if there are any fabricators on here that would be willing to fab it up for you.

Umm have anyoner ever even see this downpipe first handed? I ordered one a few years ago and it mild steel, doesnt look half bad for what costed 60 buck, the downpipe is a 2 piece. It a slip on fit at the bump you see in the middle of the downpipe, i for one like ssautochrome downpipe.

BTW, the piping is only 2.5 inch not 3 inch, the flex pipe however is 3 inch i believe

that's a somewhat of a positive review ...

haha... maybe there still is hope for me https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

That DP isn't going to fit... Good luck trying to make it fit.

Mugencrxsir1 May 4, 2006 11:00 AM

Re: (Kowalski)

Plus why are you buying a SS auto crap DP? For a little more you could buy a OBX DP that's modeled off the full race DP!!! Or just have an exhaust shop make you one, or make it your self. If you plan on using that DP, I hope you have some fab skills, and can weld. You will probably have to cut the flange off, and make a couple of pie cuts and reweld and extra bung for wide band. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

raene May 4, 2006 11:06 AM

Re: Downpipe Issues ... (eg8kid)

Worst comes to worst, you've still got the flanges you need and most of the metal, and you can have them rewelded to MAKE them fit.

tallyturbo May 4, 2006 11:09 AM

Re: (Mugencrxsir1)

some people are quick to bash ssac. i used the 3in dp and never had one prob. i say go for it and if you need to modify it so be it.

allmotorsi04 May 4, 2006 11:36 AM

Re: (tallyturbo)

u could just order some mandrel bends and have some muffler shop cut and weld one together for you......or find a shop if available that does good aftermarket exhaust work. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

yee SERIOUS May 4, 2006 11:39 AM

what if the flange needs to be rotated? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif get out the hack saw

dpetro1 May 4, 2006 11:49 AM

Re: (undercoverdc2)

yeah regardless of the quality, most likely this dp isnt just gonna bolt up. its gonna have to be cut and rewelded. more time and money.

btw, what manifold are you running anyways?

mattssi May 4, 2006 11:59 AM

If the way you have the turbo mounted in your engine bay is typical to the rest, the compressor inlet will be towards the passenger side and the turbine outlet will be towards the drivers side. The ssauto DP will not fit at all. Look at the picture.

StolenTeg May 4, 2006 12:14 PM

Re: (mattssi)

I assume someone buying a downpipe would have enough brain to know which way his turbo face and which downpipe would fit instead of buying the opposite one

thank you for giving me that much credit ...
