Default Does battery voltage affect performance?

Recently I had an electrical load dectector problem that kept draining my new battery, but with h-t's help I fixed that and now my car starts up just fine. But when driving, my car bogs big time above 3k rpm. I'm wondering if it could be the battery.

deserves a bump cos I would like to know too.....how does battery voltage affect your sparks since my voltage is like 12.5V when idling and 13.9 while driving. Can't imagine what it is while cranking

A weak battery shouldn't make it bog that bad. If I remember correctly the voltage should be min. 14.0 at idle.

I doubt it's your battery, your alternator supplies power to the car when it's running. I suupose it could be a bad voltage regulater in the alternator, but I'd check the distributor cap and rotor, plugs etc. before I went and replaced an alternator.

so the voltage should be min of 14 at idle? does that mean that a) battery is bad
b) alternator is bad?

thanx

The voltage option on my apex-i timer says its 12.4 now at idle. But something still feels wrong with my car, hopefully I'll get more clues when I dyno next week.

all you guys show signs of a bad alternator, It's going bad. I recently noticed that my voltage is at 13.9 at idle. It's suppose to be at 14.2-14.4, therefore my car once in a while just dies.

Interesting that you guys mention this. A long time ago, I had a problem with my lights randomly dimming on their own as I'd drive. I could actually see the headlights on the ground dim and brighten over and over randomly. I took it to the dealer and they replaced my Alternator under warranty. Well fast fwd to today (3 years later) and it seems like I'm having the same problem. On the thottle, my GReddy timer shows about 12v, as soon as I let go of the gas, my lights slightly brighten and I get a jump to 13v+ on the timer before it drops againto like 11-12v at idle.. any idea what could be causing this? Alternator or something else? My tuner mentioned something inside the cabin, just above the ECU which is supposed to regulate voltage than according to him tends to go bad on Honda's but I can't recall exactly what it was..

that cant be right at all. i have a gps receiver that monitors voltage and it stays above 12v on the road it is about 13v. anything below 12v is bad

You sure? for one, I have the AEM pulleys on my car, so I am wondering if that will cause my battery to have a lower voltage at idle. When I step on the throttle, the voltage will go to at least 13.8, if not more.

My battery voltage meter reads around normal now in the 14's. I think I was just bogging from the new intercooler and slightly soft BOV. I added a boost controller and tightened the BOV, and it seems to help spool up quicker.
