dish in combustion chamber concern... <image>
this better not be a prank, I fell for it and didnt see anything, if there is a defect it has to be chamfered out refilled and shaped.
this is not a prank, I realize it is hard to see in the pictures. Here are two more with arrows drawn in around my area of concern.

Nathan, for being a CPE, you have a lot to learn about computers
. Also, these little dishes are not in all of the cylindersBrian

That mark is a piston letting go and hitting the head. I assume you just bought the head off of someone. What you need to do is have that part of the head magnaglowed for potential cracks. You can weld the groove and grind it flat or would probably be ok to use it as is if there are no cracks. Don't buy stuff site unseen off of people you don't know or trust. Take it to a decent head rebuilder for potential repairs

this head was JUST received from DPR. it was sent damaged and Dan rebuilt the damaged combustion chambers and did all of the other work on the head. it was not bought with all the head work done. it was sent out to get the work done and was received last week. it has not been on a car since the headwork had been done. we can get some before and after pics up later

Thats what I did do.... The history of the head is a friend dropped a valve in cylinder #1, destroying the piston. I sent it to DPR for a stage V, new valves, springs, retainers, etc. and to have the chamber that was destroyed rewelded. #1 came back looking perfect, but two other chambers picked up these grooves while at DPR. I just got the head back last week and haven't put it in yet...
Had to be a different core returned to you or you missed the marks when you sent the head to him. Something doesn't make sense. I'd call him to see what's the deal
I highly doubt that Dan mixed the heads up. He had the head for 5 months and Nathan was calling him weekly to get him off his *** and finish his head. The head shows zero signs of use. And we have pics of the head before it was sent and those marks were not there.

I'm wondering if you've maybe called DPR and asked about these mysterious marks?
nathan wanted to ask here first if these marks were normal before going and confronting Dan about them. When you see the pics of his head before it went to DPR, Dan wouldnt have gained much from switching it with another head....

I don't think anyone's suggesting that dan would swap the heads because he liked one better or anything... maybe he simply had another virtually identical head that was finishing up sooner, or maybe it was just a mistake early on - two people ship in similar heads, he does your work on the other guy's head... nobody really LOSES here, and nobody is getting cheated out of anything. But it might explain why there are piston impact marks on this head when there's no other reason for them to be there.
It is the same head that I shipped him. I called him and he said it was from a machine they use to open up the combustion chamber, and that they did cause it. He said not to worry about it because it is in the quench area and that it won't cause any problems. But of course he is going to say that.... He said not to worry about sanding it down or anything so I don't know.... I guess I'll put it on and go with it, not worried about losing power because of it I just don't want a lot of heat building up in that groove leading to detonation.
