Default cyl wall scratches - read old- this is diff.

well as many know ive been replacing my head for a new built one the last few days, read the old posts on how to fix but cant find these answers

when i got my old head off i noticed that my cylinder walls (all 4) had some vertical scratches. in several places some deeper than others, few would catch a nail.

my bottom end was built about 2 years ago to date almost- i remember it was november----

so i know the right way to fix the scratches would be to pull the motor - bore it and run bigger pistons, or rings if they would fit..... but i cant do that- no time for down time with school and no other car-

at this point i went ahead and reinstalled the new head- not much i COULD do. I figured i have been riding on it like for a while- didnt just happen that day right?? so what is the worst that could come of it-- blown rings???
big deal right- ill just ahve to pull later

also i noticed some pings on the piston heads, and also lots -- i mean lots of thick hardened carbon on the piston heads-- hard enough to scratch--friends think the scratches wither came during break in 2 years ago and are fine or happened recently due to detonation or which may have caused loose metals to do this

how long can i ride like tihs- 1 day, 1 month , 1 year?
how long do you think the scratches have been there?
thanks

Well, look at it this way:
If you pull the motor now and rebuild, you will be straight.
If you drive it like it is now (easier solution) and then the engine goes (IDK, say you lose compression in the cylinders) you have to pull the motor and rebuild.
Either way your gonna have to pull the motor and rebuild, so you might as well wait till it goes, that way you can enjoy it now, and still get around.

thats basically what i decided
im gonna try to find another block in the meantime and sleeve it - then build and swap

hopefully by my b-day in march i can get it done
that way no down time
im just scared to tune this motor for boost as to what might happen.

scratches on cylinder walls on built motors are usually due to runnin too lean/hot, the pistons and rings to overexpand and rub up against the walls causing the scoring.

if u run it as is, the scraches could get deeper causing you to need to bore bigger than it currently is...otherwise take it easy on the motor, i dont see any catistrophic coming from runnin as is...just your basic burning oil, low vac, etc

someone correct me if im wrong

oh thats another thing

my vac sits at 19 or 20 inches of vaccuum...... thats good right?
the car should be started today hopefully and we'll see what compression is

I DO know that i was running lean because my intake valves and plugs were WHITE and powdered
so i def. need a retune ASAP..... if my compression checks fine. is it ok to hammer on the dyno for say 7psi?
