Default crankshaft heat treating

Question for the smarter people here on H-T. I spun a rod bearing on my ls and am re using the old crank. When the machine shop was fixing it the guy told me it was scored up pretty bad and that it wore through the heat treating, so he recommended getting it re heat treated after he is done. Do any of you guys know if this is necessary to do?

Throw it out. Its not cost effective to fix the old crank when you can buy a used crank in good condition for about $100.

if it is heat treated it was done before the mains were ground to size in the factory. Nothing you could do now but send it to a machine shop to be re treated and then ALL the mains would have to be reground.

+1 on the Get a new crank solution. something that caused that much damage has altered the material properties. These cranks are fairly cheap anyways no reason to save one this bad.

Thats what I'm thinking but the machine shop told me it can still be saved and the re heat treating only adds another hundred bucks so idk what to do. I'm probably gonna end up getting a used one I suppose. Do you guys recommend getting a used crank and just using it as is or would you recommend it to be micro polished?

Buy a "new" crank... DO NOT try to salvage a honda crank that's worn through the hardened journals.

Get a used LS/CRV crank that was pulled from a good engine with no journal damage.
You dont have to but you can have it micropolished and [re]balanced.
