Cam gears worth it?
Ok, Im just thinking of more things that I should invest before I get the turbo on and get it on the dyno.
So, are the gears worth it? I am going to stay with stock cams until I decided to fully build the motor. What kinda gains can I expect by using them.
My setup is good for 300 hp on stock block --- Well I hope, but im only shooting for maybe 240-260.
Hondata 3B
RC 550 injectors in some pretty red fuel rail
SX regulator and large Aeromotive filter with -6AN throughout the engine bay
T3/T4 .63 stage3 and 57 trim 60 A/R compressor
2.5 dp and test pipe going to 2.25 mandrel exhaust Apex Dunk muffler
Tial 35mm with .45 bar spring
Stock throttle body and intake manifold
Stock bottom end
Stock head with the exception of my own exhaust port job
Stock Tial boost until I buy the Profec B
Should I spend the extra money on the gears and put them on or no?
What gears do you guys like. Im not a fan of the AEM 3 bolt ones.

yeah cam gears are worth it. you get to adjust the intake and exhaust came settings to give you some horsepower. sometimes, it may not help much... but its worth the try.

not just some, it'll open up alot.
VTEC cars really need the cam gears to dial out the valve overlap so they are not wasting boosted charge out the exhaust. LS motors also benefit from cam gears if dialed in right on a dyno. most people generally start with a few degrees ex retard and a couple intake advance and start fanding good gains....... or is it the other way around.......................crap i forget.
AEM with the three allen bolts slip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOHCs benefit from cam gear tuning as well. Doesn’t matter if your still using the stock valvetrain/cam, the cam gear will make a diff in a turbo setup.

Yep. Those are the gears I plan on getting. GREAT... another $300 to add to the list of **** that I need for my turbo. Just when I think I only have $700 to go.... I find out I need something else. Say I dyno my car with the turbo and WITHOUT cam gears... that will be okay until I can afford some, right? They aren't a necessity are they?

Ok, some good replies here. Just to let everyone know, I am thinking about getting them before I fine tune the hondata so it can be done on the dyno along with everything else.
I guess what im looking for is the guy who will say "I got 20 hp and my setup is almost identicle to yours"
Yeah, I was thinking the Junk2's as well. GBcenter has a buy going on but I didnt bother emailing yet for the pricing-its supposed to be that low?!

so what would you recommend for sohc turbo with cam gear in regards to ignition timing and cam timing?
Obviously retard ignition but what about cam? advance a degree or two?
