burns oil only when hot....
My engine is burning oil but only when its good and hot. Starts up fine, drive it around and its fine but after about 20 minutes it'll start spitting out the blue smoke. Nothing noticable at idle but the higher the revs and boost go the more smoke. Its not the valve seals since I just replaced them 2 weeks ago and i've totally disconencted the pcv system so I can rule that out. Oil return line isn't kinked and it enters the pan at the top so its above the oil level. Any ideas before I start ripping turbo pipes apart to look for oil residue. I'm assuming its the rings but its weird that the smoke starts only once the engine is hot, usually its the opposite.
If you motor is blowing the smoke when it is warm, I would suggest trying a little heavier grade of oil, not synthetic though, regular non-detergent motor oil. If this does not help the problem out any, then I would say tear open the turbo and check it for a bad seal.
I was planning on trying heavier oil with my next change, hopefully that will help some. Any ideas on an easy way to check the oil seals. I know the compressor side you just look for oil but the exhaust side will burn the oil as soon as it leaks so is there a way to check that side.
