Default Broken turbo...

I cannot believe this... the turbo's broken!

Anytime I go below about 10in/Hg (or about 270mm/kg2) of vacuum (meaning anywhere between 10in/Hg and boost), there is this horrible scraping sound from the turbo. It's kinda like the same sound if you stuck a sheet of paper into a spinning fan. Metallic sound... if I drive like Grandma, I can avoid the sound... does this sound like my turbo's shot?

If so, what are my options? I'm getting a little low on the flow now, seeing that I have to fix the brakes from my fire incident, and not to mention the body damage from the 'Stang driver... Can I just send my turbo out to someone to rebuild?? How much is a rebuild... or how much is a new turbo? I'm running the Mitsu TD04H-15G from the Civic Greddy kit... help! This is so not my week!

if the scraping is the actual blades, i would not bother fixing, if its in the CHRA send it out to Majestic or if you are really on a budget go to a truck shop or Hino dealer and see if they will fix it, shouldnt be more than 150 for new bearings.

I see your in So. Cal. When I blew an oil seal in my TD04. I went to Turbo City in Anaheim. They found a new cartridge. It only cost about $200.00. The cartridge was from a Dodge turbo. I would take to them. Ask for Gaery. He is the one that found the cartridge for me. I took my bad turbo apart and replaced the cart. I was on the road again the same day. If you need more info, PM me. Good luck.

Yes, I'm in LA County... I guess I'll have to roll on down there later this week and check out Turbo City then. Will they have a replacement cartridge the same as my current turbo? I'm concerned as to if they'll have the same blade count, pitch (I forgot the term for it...), etc...

The one I got from them was exactly the same as my old one. Same amt of blades and by the look of it the same pitch. I was concerned too but I inspected it carefully and it looked exactly the same. Oh one thing though, the new one has a place to run coolant through it. I didnt run coolant through it. You dont need to.

Wait, so did you get an entire new/rebuilt turbo from them, or just the turbine??

On second look, my issue may just be a really bad exhaust leak... I pulled the intake piping off to take a look at the turbo, and there does not appear to be any fore/aft turbine play at all...
