BOV and WG confusion

i did a search on the BOV and it did answer some of my question. but i'm still confused on these 3 things as people have different kinds of reasoning:

- should the BOV be open during idling? by how much - fully or partially open? i know some have them totally shut and some don't but what is the PROPER way?
- is there a proper direction that the BOV be hook up? or it doesn't matter?
- when you buy a BOV is it ready-to-use or do you still have to adjust it?

lastly, this is about WG. i've read so many times about hooking up a wastegate to a vacuum source and i really don't understand why it needs a vacuum source, doesn't it get it's signal from boost pressure rather than vacuum? or is this vacuum thing only for external WG?

in an internal WG, a hose is attached between the compressor housing and WG, this is where the WG get its signal but compressor housing provides boost and not vacuum so why do people always mention hooking up their WG to a vacuum source like brake booster??

kinda new to these stuff.

1) Being open a bit under idle is ok, it will close at the transistion from vacuum to boost.
2) proper direction meaning where it blows off to? As long as it's not blowing right on something, a few inches of clearance minium is reccomended.
3) It is ready to use, but you will want to adjust the spring to your liking, so it doesn't open too soon, or too late! It's very easy to adjust, and depending on your boost levels you may want to tinker with it.

With a bosted car, all vacuum lines are pressurized under boost, so they are only in negative pressure when the car is idling(or not in boost). Once you cross into boost, all of your vacuum lines become filled with boost, that's why they pop off all the time.

Your wastegate is reading boost pressure via manifold pressure, so it knows when to start opening to regulate the proper boost level. Without a signal from the manifold, your wg would not know when to open and release pressure.

HTH!
