blow off valve question
i really dont care that it doesnt, because it is more sleeper b/c people wont know its turbo, but why doesnt my BOV go off when i rev it up?
just something i was thinking about and wondering.

I don't know the answer for it but I downloaded a SRT-4 reving in nuetral and the BOV went off. I just completed my car like 2 weeks ago and I tried it but no luck. I also have the RFL BOV. Some good info that I would like to know also. I hate when a friend wants to hear it and I have to break the speed limit to show them.
You need load in order to build boost and hear the BOV, however this only true with larger turbos. With smaller turbos, like the one on the Dodge Neon SRT4, it doesn't really take much load to build up boost. Which explains why you can hear the bov when you rev it with no load on the motor. I am sure the the guys with the greddy, edlebrock, or apexi turbo kits have no problem hearing their BOV reving in neutral either. The same thing applies to the guys with WRX's who have aftermarket "audible" BOVs.

Takes either A: some pretty damn strong breathnig motor, or B: a smaller turbo. Chances are. you will never even make 1 psi if you rev it in nutral depending your turbo size... Now. get a MSD 2 step and then you can build bosot then it'll go off in neutral :D

As you said, it depends waht you are lookngi for. There are too many people on here slappnig on the biggest turbos they can get to ahve mad top end but wait.. They only have pwoer from 5 or 6000 and up. What about the rest? Get a properly sized turbo and you'll have that same power but in the mid range witha little less in the top end. which results in a MUCH more usable powerband. 200WTQ from 3000-7000 is a hell of alot better then 200WTQ from 5000-8000 IMO The only thing peaky HP/TQ pwoerband cars are good for are all out drag. Where as a nicer broader powerband across the whole board yields effective road racing/autoXing/daily driving pleasure, with the ability to still spank in the 1/4

20 bucks says you bounce it off of the rev limiter like a .02 cent hooker.
at our local meets, the only time you hear our bov's is when we pull in, when we take ppl for rides, and when we leave. you dont need to hear it, its autmotically understood that the person next to you is slower/faster.

at the time 5.5psi which is stock on greddys kit but now im at 7psi and im playing it a little more careful.
and no i wasnt bouncing it off the rev limiter. so give me 20 bucks.
unless you have personal experience with greddys sohc kit then dont comment.

I can build 5-7 pounds of boost in neutral. If you dont believe me i'll video tape it.
If you open the throttle plate all the way, and rev it up all the way... there should be no reason you dont see boost, better yet hear your BOV chirp.
Granted i have an 18g, but i also have a 2" crushed DP, and a 2 1/4" exhaust on a stock B16.

you are all forgetting the most important reason some cars do not build boost in neutral, if you have an intercooler, this will also play a big factor, especially if you have an intercooler that holds a lot of air, also it depends on how long and how big the piping is in your system. if you have 3 feet of 2.25" piping total and no intercooler obviously you will make the bov sound, but if you have a big fat intercooler and piping that routes all over hell the same car will have to work a lot harder to produce pressure.
Very good point too, and as of the subject of haveing a good power range with a big turbo you can. I ran 14bs and such and there crap up top, I rather have a turbo go to redline then crap out before redline. I always suggest a decent priced t3 because I can't afford a sc61, and small turbos don't cut it.
