B00STD wants a LOT of assistance in making a future EG Hatch Turbo build
Ok, so a little premature since we dont have the car yet but I have a few Im looking at now and will be buying soon. I do however have a lot of parts that I've bought over the years, and previously had a B18C1 swapped hatch a few yeara ago. We're (me and my son) going to be building either a B16A or B18C1 motor - prefer the B18, but B16A may happen since we're in CA and most of the Bar'd cars have B16s. Photos to come later as my garage is in shambles but here is the list to start from what I can remember (and organize the build):
PARTS WE HAVE: Intercooler (Spearco core?) Intercooler piping InlinePro stainless - Jet hot coated Tial 38mm wastegate Tial 50mm BOV Precision SC61 that needs a rebuild ($400) Brand new ~4" diameter / 9" K&N filter for turbo NEED TO GET Rebuild SC61 - $400 S300V3 & computer - $600 Oil inlet and drain lines - $130 ID1050x Injectors - $400 HD Axles - TBD Clutch - TBD Transmission Rebuild? - TBD 3" Exhaust Thermal - TBD Etc... GOALS Probably start with 325-350hp for a while since it's our first turbo car, then build a different motor for 500hp in the future (1-2yrs). Want to be able to drive 2 days per week reliably. Never taken to track, but I do beat on my cars so it needs to be able to take the abuse. Want to run AC for sure and potentially PS if the car we buy has it already. QUESTIONS 1. Can you hook 500hp on the street with drag radials and BBG? 2. I prefer B18C, but unfortunately many of the BARD cars (which Im after) have B16As which I know have less tq. Will I still be ok with the B16 knowing my goals above, is it a major difference B16 vs B18 or with upping the boost are we good? 3. To handle the 325-350hp will I be good with just eagle rods, ARP headstuds, ID1000s, FPR, Walbro 255? 4. Can you run AC snd PS with VBand connection? 5. How much HP can the InlinePro T3 manifold handle? They dont seem as popular nowadays, but it looked like people were running 400HP back in the day. This is it for now, Ill post photo of car we eventually buy and our parts once the garage is cleaned up. |

To handle the 325-350hp will I be good with just eagle rods, ARP headstuds, ID1000s, FPR, Walbro 255? Don't forget forged pistons; Wiseco, Arias, CP.. etc.. Those rods won't work for stock slugs. 4. Can you run AC snd PS with VBand connection? Depends on your manifold and how it orients the turbo. 5. How much HP can the InlinePro T3 manifold handle? They dont seem as popular nowadays, but it looked like people were running 400HP back in the day. Trick question.. Your manifold is not directly affected BY how much horsepower you make but it CAN affect how much you make effectively. This is it for now, Ill post photo of car we eventually buy and our parts once the garage is cleaned up. |
re: B00STD wants a LOT of assistance in making a future EG Hatch Turbo build
You might wanna start with a better manifold if 500 is the ultimate goal. There are a few ramhorm manifolds that allow you to keep AC/PS and also give a better powerband for your HP goal.

Forgot fuel pump and clutch? What fuel will be used?

yes 2. I prefer B18C, but unfortunately many of the BARD cars (which Im after) have B16As which I know have less tq. Will I still be ok with the B16 knowing my goals above,...? yes 4. Can you run AC snd PS with VBand connection? Typically no, not with a mandrel bend/smooth radius bend coming out of the turbine outlet. The ILP cast manifold is designed to ideally work with T3 5 bolt outlet housings, B compressor cover when paired with a/c. 5. How much HP can the InlinePro T3 manifold handle? They dont seem as popular nowadays, but it looked like people were running 400HP back in the day. We've done numerous B series apps on cast manifolds/T04B combinations making over 400whp throughout the years...on pump gas. |
Re: B00STD wants a LOT of assistance in making a future EG Hatch Turbo build
Thanks for the responses. In CA, so we're running 91 octane pump. I may just buy a new ramhorn manifold because I feel like Ill want to run a higher HP level later.
As far as fuel pump either the 255 walbro or the next step up. Im willing to pay for future proofing, not interested in doing things twice. And LOL for whoever changed that title of post hahaha. |
Re: B00STD wants a LOT of assistance in making a future EG Hatch Turbo build
So a long time ago I ran the in-line pro t3 manifold with a Garrett t3t4 60 trim and made 480whp and it was smooth. Biggest problem with the manifold is it required me to cut a good amount of the block webbing. Other than that I did run ac/ps and it was a good street car. |
Re: B00STD wants a LOT of assistance in making a future EG Hatch Turbo build
I had a SC61 in my old setup. Potential to make lots of power but can be laggy on the low RPMs.

i rember the exact same setup. Positive pressure (being just outside of vacuum) was at over 4200rpms, with full pressure of about 8psi by 6500-7000rpms! It was a horrible.. absolutely horrible to use on a B16

LoL. I remember this being SUCH a bandwagon turbo back around 2004.
Now a lot of the cars Im finding are B16 (that are BARD), however I'd prefer the GSR motor of course. I may end up just throwing in a GSR motor and going through the BAR process from scratch, but I was originally not wanting to deal with the headache. Still car shopping...found a couple hatches that are promising, updates to come. |

Re: B00STD wants a LOT of assistance in making a future EG Hatch Turbo build
There are many new(er) age turbo options that will give you all-round better performance. Even for the eventual 500whp goal you can get something that will have a powerband of 5000 - 9000 rpm without necessarily breaking the bank. A GT3076 (0.63A/R) or BW S252 SX-E will be cost-effective options for 500whp (on good fuel) whilst a GTX3071 Gen 2 will probably be in the sweet-spot of spool vs power on a B16A.
If you do go for a B18C it will obviously have a much better powerband and more torque and power everywhere. Big turbo B16's want and need rpm and that means decent rods, pistons and valvetrain in order to do so reliably. |
Re: B00STD wants a LOT of assistance in making a future EG Hatch Turbo build
Just cleaning out the garage this past week, making room for new car (search still in progress). Took an inventory of all the parts collected over the past several years. With the new direction of wanting 500hp, Ill likely sell some of these parts later or perhaps keep them for a simpler build down the line. Probably going new turbo/wastegate/manifold etc now with new goals.
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...c99e8c435d.jpg Have a decent amount of parts, but probably going to buy more new parts since I want the daily driver reliability. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...d03dfcd940.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...edb3dd6b7b.jpg 3.5\" thick https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...79f791d95a.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...0ced97197f.jpg 550cc I believe.. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...5f77c646ed.jpg InlinePro Stainless with Jet Hot coating https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...7c0ab58cac.jpg Precision SC61 https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...83bb9132e0.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...92904de74e.jpg |

PM me the price for the inlinepro manifold.

I'll take a quote on the intercooler!

Don't use the injectors either get EV14 style

Re: B00STD wants a LOT of assistance in making a future EG Hatch Turbo build
That's a Garrett core FMIC

Re: B00STD wants a LOT of assistance in making a future EG Hatch Turbo build
Lol... Ill probably just sell the turbo and injectors. Likely going to use new turbo (something around or a gt3076), ramhorn manifold, id1050s, etc. Trying to hit 500hp but have good spool characteristics. Process moving slow but Ill get there...

Stick with a mini ram if you want better spool characteristics. No need for a full ram @ that level.
