Hi. Looking to buy a turbo'd teg, but I am not sure how this will affect CT emissions. When I register the vegicle, they would probably give me a date for emissions. I know the car does not have a cat, so I would have to have one installed for emissions. Also, I've never owned a turbo car before and will be learning how to tune, etc. as I go. It's a GS-R running around 10 psi on stock internals with a lowered compression head gasket. Guy also said he's got it running slightly rich, rather than lean and chance of blowing the engine. Basically wondering what any other people in CT plan on doing, or what needs to be done to get their normally NA car that's boosted through emissions.
Thanks much

the turbo itself won't fail you.
Emissions are NOT inspection.
It is illegal in the state of CT for a tech to pop open your hood while doing emissions testing.
if you are obd2, you got more issues to worry about- as they use the scan tool only.
if your obd1, they "dyno" you and take an exahust reading.
As long as you pass that, you're fine.
A good tune and a good running motor will pass no problem.

that is sooo wrong. they do pop your hood, they attach a lead to check your rpm's. they dont care if you have any aftermarket parts though. as long as all your emmisions equipment is in working order then your ok. what year is your car? most newer cars wont need to get tested for a while, and if you do get tested then just makesure you got a car and new o2 sensor and your all set.

the car is a 1994, obd1. has a turbo and no cat. will a hi-flow cat work.? i don't know how i would attach the stock cat to a 3" downpipe and 2.5" exhaust. i don't have the car yet, just debating whether or not to buy it if it's not gonna pass inspection

you will need a cat to pass. if they dont see one you'll fail right away. carsound can make you a cat for your application.

If it matters to you, my turbo civ (afc hack) passed emissions with flying colors. They did the dyno test and all went well. No stupid questions or anything. He hooked it up, put the sniffer in the tailpipe, and let it go nuts. I was out in 15 minutes.

yeah, my teg passed emmisions and i failed last time. i'll post my numbers up. the place i went to the guy was cool though. but he did check for a cat.

Have any of you guys had the scan tool check done?

wait... a 1994 turbo teg? around norwich? Who's car are you thinking about buying? I only know of one turbo teg around here..
no. the cars in NY (Bayside to be exact). I was afraid it might be stolen or something, but it did a carfax and everything seems legit. It's gonna be a 2.75 hour drive just to look at it, then another haul if i decide to get it. I'm hopefully gonna have Phiz come up with me and take a look at it, as I am new to forced induction and he would be able to spot any flaws or **** that seems fishy. Hopefully he will be doing my tuning too, eventually with Hondata. Will be at least two weeks b4 I even look at it, as the guy says he's currently doin' some **** with the engine right now. I'll keep ya'll updated
