That ability to run real low boost levels for traction in lower gears would be awesome.

 

I believe that is my screenshot I took from the TurboSmart manual. Yes Ive been using a 4 port solenoid for over a year. I have a 5-30psi range with boost by gear.

 

How do you have it setup in your software? Normally open or normally closed? Everything else is the same as far as controls?

 

Its setup the same way as a normal 3 port solenoid in the software. NC (inverted), 35hz.

 

What size spring(s) are you using muck...

 

I experimented with a 3psi spring originally because I wanted full traction in 1st gear with street tires, which I got. But I found that the behavior was sketchy beyond 72% duty. At 73% duty it would boost to the moon and hit my boost cut at 32psi. But 72% was fine and made 24-25psi (8x). I played with the frequency and a few other things including the boost source and size etc but couldnt resolve it.

I switched out the wg spring for a 5psi spring and have gone all the way to 30psi (6x) at 72% but havent pushed my luck with 73%. I dont know if the limitation was a duty limit or a boost pressure ratio limit.

 

I was looking at this as well. Still trying to see how this would benefit me. I run dual 38 mvs gates. Holding a low amount of boost is never an issue. Will this allow me to ramp in boost better?

 

possibly, if the boost controller allows for "gain" to give better response.. That would be similar to a Greddy Profec B spec II.. But people on this site avoid the GReddy because they think its overly expensive and not work in conjunction with boost-by-gear through the ECU.

 

Why would you even need the controller if its controlled through the ecu? All of these solenoids are essentially the same.

 

I know honodata doesnt allow gain control for better turbo responce but if you know how to tweek your setup you can get the boost controller to act like it has gain control to keep the Wg closed longer and better turbo responce.

i usually run my boost solenoid at 90% duty cycle in lower rpm with activation at 1psi boost untill my desired boost level is reached then i set it to the proper duty cycle for the amoutn of boost i want to run for the remainder of the rpm range. really wakes the turbo up quite nicely

Im going to pick up one of these 4 port units and give it a try though. i would like 5 psi in first gear instead of 9.5 would get better traction for sure

 

The control logic is identical to a regular 3-port... Instead of having 100% duty cycle and sending all the flow signal to the top port only, it also closes up the bottom port in a traditional external wastegate setup. So 50% from your boost controller on a 4-port now behaves like 100% on an old 3-port setup.

I am running one in my 700+ WHP Camry earlier this year with an E-Boost2, and it allowed me to run 12 PSI at the lowest setting and up to 40 PSI up top. With my old 3-port solenoid, the same spring only managed 30 PSI. This also gave me the ability to precisely dial in gear-based and RPM-based boost in almost a 3D manner.

Haha, I had the car since it was new back in '94, and it was already turbocharged since 2002. It's running on an AEM 1060 EMS, custom wired into the car parallel with the stock ECU

 

Where can I find these 4 port mac valve at? The ones I found were 24 volts, could not find one that are 12v.

I believe its that 46A-AA1-J DD valve that comes in 12VDC if you dont feel like paying over twice what its worth
