300 hp street driven sohc
how hard would it be to hit 300 at the wheels, would the $1500 or so that i would save from not doing a swap allow me to hit 300 hp at the wheels with a sohc?? if i bought the pistons/rods from turbopanda for $700 or whatever and then did some mild p&p, and then turbo'd it, would i be able to hit 300 hp at 1.2 bar?
I highly doubt you will hit 300 Whp with just the 1,500 you would save. Maybe if you get some great deals and do all the labor yourself. I am happy to see someone sticking with the SOHC. It would cost the same or more if you were to swap anyways. 300 Whp is definitely possible on a SOHC though. 300 Whp would probably require some sleeves. I have also been looking into block posting as a cheaper alternative. It's definitely possible it just going to take some money. Getting any honda engine B,D, or H into 300s isn't the easiest operation but others have done it. Good Luck
IMO, can it be done w/ 1500...yes, how long would it last...not very long...it's going to take more money on top of it to build a reliable 300whp SOHC
Simply not going to happen with only a $1500 budget. Not unless you rig together some junkyard turbo setup or something, and cranked the boost up, but I wouldn't expect it to last much longer than a few seconds without tuning (which you can't fit in with that budget).

$140 will set you up to burn chips, tune, and boost via GM 2 bar MAP and fiddled MAP signal. Some people get medieval with theory and hands-on tech instead of paying others to do it for us... not knocking Hondata 4b or AEM setups, they are very nice setups and much easier to use... but I dialed my CRX in via the above method.
Buying Hondata or AEM is like buying a crate engine from a reputable builder... it costs, but you know it is bad as hell. PGMFI hacking is like building your own engine... if you apply the time to learning and tuning and can deal with a PITA you can do the same for a lot less.

It can be done, but realistically its going to cost near 5,000-6,000. I am doing the same, but going for 250whp on 8psi with 11:1 compression. With the right components selected 300whp is easily obtainable, but those components are going to cost you. 400whp d-series has been done before, 300whp is nothing crazy. For your budget of 1,500.00 its not possible to build a reliable built set-up.
