... and what transmission are you using ? The wiring for that device is pretty straight forward, so do you believe that the wiring is correct ? Have you altered the programming in the K-Tuned device ? Lastly, it is not uncommon for people to remove the front mounted speed sensor, accidentally lose the thin washer/spacer that should be installed between the sensor and the trans case, and then re-insert the VSS. The sensor tip makes contact with the gear inside and as soon as you attempt to drive the car, the sensor gets damaged.

Transmission is a z3, the wiring should be correct as well. It pegs out as soon as I drive.

Hmmm... that would suggest that the sensor is working. It is possible that you have interrupted the VSS signal wire too close to the ECU... remember that the wire splits before going into the ECU. Check your sensor output in a datalog and see if the VSS in the data stream is normal (or closer to normal anyway). If so, you have interrupted the VSS signal for the instrument cluster in the wrong place. You might want to tap into the signal wire after the integration plug (some call it the C101 connector). This way, you are getting the signal wire between the ECU and the speedometer itself.
