Default ECU question. b16b/b16a

Hey whats up everybody. I have quick question. Im going to put a b16b head with ITR internals, and new CTR cams. I have a b16a2 block. My car is a 99 civic si. my question is if my ECU would run fine with that upgraded head, or do i/should i grab another ecu? i want to rev high but also want something reliable.

You won't be revving any higher until you switch the ECU anyway. If you want it tuned properly get an OBD2->OBD1 conversion harness and an OBD1 ECU. Then get tuned.

thanks! but will i still be able to run my current ECU without any major issues like wrong idle or anythig like that? So OBD1 is the way to go huh..do those have a higher rev limit and what not? what are the benefits of stock OBD1

Your ECU may run the car ok, but it's no longer fueled properly for your setup because, well, it's no longer stock.

You don't want stock OBD1. If you go OBD1 the point is it's tunable. That means rev limits and other settings can be changed to suit your application.

For an example of things that can be changed on OBD1, see this link:

so a chipped p28 for example should be the trick? if its chipped would a tuner be able to further more alter it better or you have to get some kind of other softwear for that. I was lookin at phearable.net or something like that. Do they have pretty good products.

Phearable has good products. You can then take the chipped ECU to a tuner and get tuned on whatever software they offer.

Either, depending on what software they offer.

Should be ok to drive on for a while if he makes you a good basemap for your setup.
