Default Piston to wall tolerance and cross hatch longevity

Getting curious here, how much does running a bigger ptw like say .004 with forged pistons and up cut down on the life of the motor and cross hatch wear. I'm thinking about doing another build but trying to daily it a lot on my 60 mile commute

From what i've seen, going too tight is what eats the skirts. Going a little loose you should be OK. I would (I do) just make sure it's warmed up a little more than I would a car with cast pistons before driving.

Ever ponder asking the piston's OEM what his recommended clearances are?

There is a "Goldilocks" effect here... too tight, and yes, you can scuff the skirts. Too loose, and the piston rock is too high, and this will also damage the skirts. Right down the middle of these two is just right.
