Intake duration suggestion
I'm in the market for a new pair of cams for the motor I'm currently working on. B18 block with gsr head. Block has been bored to 82mm with ycp prisons and NPR rings. I'm preparing to bring the head to the machine shop for some work. They will be replacing valve seals, valve guides, keepers and I went with brian crower springs with steel retainers. My problem is that I'm trying to go with the stage 2 brian crower cams BUT I dont know what intake duration should I go with. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. TiA
Duration numbers are littlebit marketing anyway, just like peak valvelifts and ”stages”. These are not telling you much how cam perform and what is valve motion, but of course those will advice.
BC stg2 are street friendly cams, just like S2 Tuners and other similars, so primary lobes aren’t big. At VTEC, power band is quite wide and peak around ~8500rpm, depending other setup. In B18, 220-230hp at crank is realistic.
Ok now I understand, your cam supplier has listed all B-series stage2 options in same drop list, which is stupid and confusing. VTEC and non-VTEC, naturally aspirated and forced induction.
222°= BC0022 B-series non-VTEC All Motor Street and/or High Boost Turbo
204°= BC0021 B-series non-VTEC Forced Induction Specification
232°= BC0011 B-series VTEC Forced Induction Specification
254°= BC0012 B-series VTEC All Motor Street and/or High Boost Turbo
Hope that's clear. My experiences and examples concern to BC0012.
