Block surface finish
Hi everyone
I'm currently working on putting a d16y8 head on my y7. I just got done cleaning up the block. Does this look like a good enough job to get a good seal from the headgasket( yes I got a new one lol)? Thanks for the input.
still need to blow out some of the left over crud that can be seen

What did you clean that with? Cinder block?
Some of that texture looks pretty deep and rough.
Have I run worse successfully? Yeah. Is it ideal? No.
You can probably get away with it if you are running a composite gasket. If it's multilayer steel odds aren't so good at success.

It kind of looks like you used a rotary tool in a few places to clean up the old gasket material - if you did, that's pretty risky, as you can "dig out" a low spot and have sealing issues. I agree with Ryan - I would use a fiber metal gasket (assuming this is a daily driver) and send it.
Thanks for the advice guys. I already had a new mls headgasket and I used that with some copper spray. If that doesn't work I can only blame myself since I got actual advice
Grey scotchbrite works great on aluminum. Real light pressure in a swirling motion making sure not to stay in the same area too long. You can always take more off but you cant add material back on
