B16a Stripped Valve Cover Bolt Threads
Hello, I'm creating this post hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I was replacing the valve cover gasket and hardware on my 95 del sol with a b16a. One of the studs had broken off so I ordered a Skunk2 valve cover hardware kit. Upon installing, the instructions said to torque the studs to 20ft lbs. I threaded all of them in by hand until they needed to be torqued. Long story short, one of the middle studs stripped the threads in the head.
After putting the valve cover back on, the stripped stud still seems to hold the valve cover in place. Should I even bother with a helicoil? If so, how would I go about doing so? Any help is appreciated!

I would do a thread repair (I prefer Time-Sert) if it were mine. Use tape and painter's plastic to mask off everything but the hole - this will keep the chips from falling into your engine. Then, simply follow the instructions for the thread repair kit. Use a vacuum followed by compressed air to remove drilling/tapping chips. Make sure you drill straight.
