Tration bars , how well do they work ???
well I did a Search but did not get realy what Iam looking for , so like topic says , I wouldlike to here from racers that have raced with out them and then with them to see if there was a diffrence or not , Iam hereing so many mixed opinions on the traction bars , so help me get it right , tia
When I was running pretty much stock mounts they eliminated almost all of my wheel hop and decresed my 60foot times. I have been running solid mounts for the last 2 years and this past weekend I forgot to tighten my traction bars and made a pass and had no wheel hop. So I am not sure how much they are really helping now.
yeah thats what I was finding in the search's , people just talking about wheel hop , well no wheel hop here at all , so Iam more looking for something to cut the 60 foots down
also a good comparison is people on slicks vs radials vs street tires
People on slicks are most likely not gong to have wheel hop (underpressure02 (chad) runs slicks, so not very likely he will have wheel hop
Radial guys like me, will have LOTS of wheel hop (i think radials are probably the worst) , for they try to bite then release and bite/release so on and so forth, alot of things make this go away, better track, more heat, right tire pressure, dont try to over drive them etc
Street tires, pretty much either spinning or hopping, probably mostly spinning though
As for the traction bar concern, My car made a difference, but this could be compensating for Other things like suspension setup, mounts etc.
The most important thing to realize is that suspension moves, tires want to go back and car wants to go forward (traction bars are suppose to eliminate as much movement as possible) as long as its setup properly. just slapping them on is not a solution, alignment and making sure that suspension parts are not worn out. plus it allows for preload adjustment to help load suspension and toe in a tad for point straight down track
Hope this helps
of course i ramble alot so if something doesnt make sense sorry
PS without my car was a 2.2 60 kinda car
w/ bars and small radials 2.0s all day
w/ big radials 1.8-1.9s all day
w/ slicks 1.6s
hope this helps

makes senese , I just run slicks at the track I have inserts in my mounts and omni coilovers so I aleast have some adjustablity there , haha also when my aligment was done I only had 1.2 degrees of negitive camber in the front so I guess that is not all that bad but could be better with a camber kit , I can get a good deal on the lakewood traction bars so I might try them out because Iam shure the lower controll arm needs the extra support for sure.
not to jack your tread but has anybody tried the full race pro-am traction bar? It has a brace for the engine that looks very use full.

the only thing is that you need to use them with a top mount manifold I think , they look like they would hold your motor realy solid

I was thinking about making my own. a metal plate from the traction bar/tow hook bolt to the AC comp. bracket maybe? or even the upper rad bolt area to the valve cover bolts?
what do you guys think?

I think the higher up on the block you can get it the better it would work , I would maybe go for the top 2 a/c compressor bolts on your setup , I think you would snap the v/c bolts with easy

I have this setup but b/c of where my dual wastegate sits on my fr top mount I could not use that brace going from the traction bar to the motor

yeah I know, but I have AC so the pro am bars wont work with my set up. I think I am goin to try to fab something up to go between the IM and firewall. on the radials my wheel hop is horrible
