Track and safety people need to be able to open the door in case of an emergency.. So most likely you won't be able to run...
Sorry

In the NHRA rulebook it says you must have working door handles...

thanks guys that was the info i was looking for.. what about some those drag cars that dont have any door handles, or do they have something riged to open the doors? what if i made an extra door popper and velcroed it or somehow made it stick on my door so in case of an emregency they could just pop the door or if my windows where open.. something i dont want to spend money on new doors..

This might sound a bit over the top but here goes anyways. The reason tracks demand door handles (or at least a way to access the driver) is so that in the event of an emergency they can get you out. Let's say you roll the car, and are unconcious and can't unstrap your yourself, then a fire breaks out, and the safety folks can't get you out. You die, but...hey at least you didn't have to spend the money to fix your doors.

Sorry to be such a jackass, but that's the fact of it. You could die in the precious few seconds the safety people fubled trying to get you out.

thats true it could happen..but the chances are smallof that happening but i dont think im gonna take the risk of that happening. im probably gonna take it to a body shop and see where they welded the plates to shave the handle and see if they can cut it out and put back in the handle and if that doesnt happen then probably new doors or i just wont run it

I had a friend that either ran a wire or a small metal rod (I forget) from his door latch to a lever he fixed to the door where the side mirrors would be. He took the mirror off on race day I put the latch in. SOrry I wrote that so confusing. What about a window net when you goto the track. That should be legal. There are plenty of drag cars with no door handles just window nets.

BY the way that is a nice body line. Whoever shaved those handles did a damn good job.

if you really wanted to race, you could get a spare set of stock doors that had handles. It wouldnt look that cool...but it would get you on the track for sure.

NHRA rules require a way to open the door from the outside. If you look at "race cars" that don't have door handles, you'll see a slot or hole in the lexan that permits access to a lever that's on the interior side of the door. Can't really see it photos, but next time you go to the track, start looking. It's true, some tracks don't check, but by NHRA rules you are supposed to have a way to open the door from the outside. (Velcro won't work. ) It's for safety people, as someone posted earlier.
