Default S400 67mm?

How do those of you who run it like it? I'm probably building a new manifold for my SRT-4 and I'm thinking about utilizing this turbo. I currently have a 91-79 with .91 a/r twin scroll setup but with the new engine I bought a 1.10 housing. But I'm thinking about selling all of that and just building another t/s manifold. My manifold won't allow for fitment of anything bigger then a S300 series turbo because the turbo hangs down close to the shifter housing plate on top of the trans. Also with the manifold being a sidewinder it makes working on the trans a complete *****.

On my stock engine I would make 24psi around 4300 with the 91-79 and .91 housing. I expect it to lag more, but I don't care since the car is going to become a primary drag car now.

New setup is a long rod engine and fuel will be a mix of C16 and ethanol with all the supporting mods. Just hoping I can keep my trans together! lol.

Thanks for any input!

BTW, I did quite a bit of research and saw Evan's Tuning has had a lot of success with that turbo.

The turbo will outperform any 67mm on the market hands down. I trapped 165 mph with 34 psi at 2600 lbs. I should be into the low 170 mph range around 40 psi. You want the 1.25 a/r housing if you are building a divided manifold, backpressure on the 1.10 a/r starts picking up alot above 30 psi. It dropped around 1:1 @ 34 psi with the 1.25 a/r housing. Emap is dependent on other factors, but you should see similar results at the same pressure ratio range on your engine. Spool/response between the 1.10 and 1.25 a/r was almost identical. I think the turbo can easily produce the same power/trap speeds as the cast 72mm s400sx.

so you would recommend the smaller housing with an open manifold?

If you have an undivided manifold use the 1.0 - 1.10. The 1.25 will hurt spool.

I ran the turbo for a while and its a great turbo. It def. flows about the same as a S372.

other than class restrictions for some, are there other benefits to using the billet 67mm instead of the cast s372? ie; responsiveness, spool, power curve?

I have not tested the Billet 67. Comparing the cast 67 to the cast 72 isnt much difference. The 67mm spools a little better but I didnt notice a difference on the track. The 72 makes more power but not much more.

I'm testing out a newer Borg Warner S400SX 72mm next week...

only if the blade geometry is different but if its the same exact wheel design and one is billet and the other cast it will make no difference.

While it may be negligable, there is still a difference. It's not an exact 1 for 1, but really damn close.

Good info.

When was it released?

Did verified with geoff at full-race a month or so and they said bw didnt have any FMW wheel offering on the 72mm.

Another thing thats good with the new FMW 67 is their Jtype turbine wheel.
