hey guys I'm getting a little confused . I have a 92 civic turbo fully built and after 20 mins of driving a cel pops up . Code 11 engine overheating. But my temp gauge sits little below the middle. S300 shows 226 degrees Fahrenheit . Coolant was bled properly and fans are working fine.Has anyone had this problem before

 

just noticed the fans are working my bad lol. thermostat working properly? is the engine running rough as the temperature starts to climb?

 

no , motor runs fine. im going to remove the t stat and inspect it

 

Air flow. Aftermarket thermostat. Heat soak Poor flowing fan etc. many variables.

 

not saying it is the problem, but have you tried checking the temp sensor to make sure its functioning properly?

 

If you are running a half radiator, and the other side is open, try blocking it off and use some weather stripping to seal the block off panel to the radiator, and chassis/radiator support on the other side to force air flow through the radiator. This worked on a friend of mines B16 turbo setup when he was having similar issues.

 

I'm going to swap the temp sensor. And I have straight antifreeze in their now so I'm gunna drain it and put distilled water with some redline water wetter and see if that helps

 

There is two different sensors, one for gauge and one for coolant temps. Although I would think they run about the same. Do you have a thermostat in? And ya straight antifreeze is not good I'm sure the bottle said concentrate and told you to mix in with water. Is it a Fresh rebuild? A fresh build will run hotter as it is breaking in, Higher Cr's will run hotter. I tried out Pentofrost 50/50 with distilled water best stuff I have used so far.

Although I have not tried straight distilled and water wetter yet I like to have a buffer for a potential boil over.
I'm sure everything is fine you just have pure antifreeze in there. If antifreeze was good we would not use water, thats why its 50/50
Antifreeze just gives water a buffer between the two buffers, too cold n Too Hott. Which I'm sure you kno.

 

No I dint use straight antifreeze , it was 50/50 mix. But I drained the coolant and used distilled water with red line water wetter and it dropped about 10 degrees. I still want it to run cooler so I ditched the single core radiator and bought a mishimoto dual core with fan shroud . I'll put it in on Thursday and see what my temps at then.

 

I used to see that code often in the summer time with a stock engine (while I was rebuilding). the overheat temperature i think is often set too low for safety in the s300, i believe it is in the protection tab. In my case I increased it as data logging showed the temp was in acceptable ranges.

 

The stock gauge is useless; it won't start moving towards "hot" until it's VERY hot (230-235degF).

 

This is why I run a separate coolant temperature gauge in my cars.
