Re: PPG final drive cracks.?
that's insane. is it literally cracked between every tooth? that is something i have never broke or cracked on a liberty dog box and a gforce dog box, the ring gear. and i know the ppg stuff is exponentially better quality than the two mentioned.

Re: PPG final drive cracks.?
Excessive tire shake. Seen it before

Re: PPG final drive cracks.?
that is a healthy crack job. My liberty has been through hell....ive cracked the pinion before but never the ring gear.

24.5s
Clutch master twin |
Re: PPG final drive cracks.?
Never seen this before. Not even stock trannies. The only trans I've ever seen cracks on the ring gear is the gforce. They seem to do it about every 30-40 passes. But those cracks were horizontal. In your pic they are vertical. Just very weird.
What ring gear size is that? Gsr? What's the counter shaft look like? Tepid, u have seen these exact cracks before? |

Re: PPG final drive cracks.?
Seen it a few times on the PPG 4.6. If you look back a few years ago there is a lot of info about this.

Re: PPG final drive cracks.?
We have a few older ones like this as well, never broken one yet though.

Could be to tight against the counter shaft?

Yes, that's why I said I've seen it before. The early revision gearsets had this issue. I've seen it on the early 4.4 and 4.6 finals.
The newer stuff doesn't seem to have this issue. Question is for op and locash also. If they are willing to share. I have notice on the gsr ring gear that it doesn't sit fluch with the diff. Had to machine the spool a couple mm smaller so it would sit flush. |
