Default NHRA Rollcage

Hello Honda tech, I have been looking around trying to find what rollcage rules are for 9.00 seconds with no luck. Does anyone have pictures of examples that I can use. Thank you in advance

Buy the NHRA rule book. Has all the requirements and diagrams that you'll need.

10.00 and slower is 6 point cage As per NHRA general regulations. Anything faster isn't NHRA spec anymore but SFI.

Pretty sure its SFI 25.5B cert. but that might be for even faster. Don't have an sfi book because I'm far from ever needing one.

Hope this gets you in the right direction.

My last post may be referring to roadsters. Sorry for confusion.

Just Google "NHRA general regulations" and download the pdf. Its roughly page 21in that download.

What specific questions do you have? Likely you are going to want to get a rulebook if you are building it yourself....too much to discuss on here.

I have an 8.50 NHRA certified 10 point cage in my car. I have a bunch of pics on my build thread. It is hovering on the first page of this drag racing section.

AZ_CIVIC you get you car tuned at Locash so you may have seen the car that I am building now. Its the black EG hatch that was rolling around Joe's shop for awhile. It has a six point cage in it already, I was looking at your build thread and saw the two front down bars coming off what would be the halo but where are the other two points? I can only see main hoop, door bars, back kickers , and front down bars.

There are a couple other key points- The horizontal bar (behind both front seats and at base of main hoop)
This bar is sometimes welded to the main hoop (incorectly), however the rules say this should be welded to drivers side and passenger side kick panel to provide lateral rigidity.

Yeah I remember that hatch over at Joes shop, take a look at the picures below it pretty much gives you an idea of what you need. The only picture that is not 100% clear is the floor bars on the main hoop at the floor right behind the seats, you can kind of see them right were the carpet is at. Look at picture number four you can see it.

This is the cage that is in the car currently. Ron Burgandy, you kinda have me worried(hahahahaha) because the lower horizontal bar is welded to the main hoop.

That lower horizontal bar is how mine is welded as well. You are fine, now just finish up the other setions and you are good to go for an 8.50 cert.

To my knowledge The lower cross bar has to go to the rockers if the floor plates are only on the floor and the main hoop is welded straight down to those plates. If the plates are welded to the floor and to the rockers then the cross bar can go to the main hoop like pictured above. I'm about 90% sure that's how I read that. Been a while

The bars angled down off the main hoop toward the center are supposed to go to plate welded to the tunnel or to the cross brace under the seat area from my understanding but that might be only if the main hoop plates aren't to the rockers

Also depends on the inspector what they do or don't like. Sometimes those technicalities will pass cert or so I've read.

The main hoop is perpendicular to the floor and the plate the main hoop is welded to is rather large and stops at the rocker, I don't know if that makes a difference.

AZ_CIVIC may I ask who built your cage?

It was done a couple doors down from Joe at TSR. Aaron went through the rulebook and we designed the cage to be done the way you seen above so I could keep all of my interior and still have back seats that can still fold up and down without cutting them up. His buddy Nick from JDL auto a couple more doors down came over and did the cage.
From there Joe called up a guy they normally use for the NHRA certifications and got the car 8.50 certified.

Nick also did my parachute mounting, window net and built me a real nice slider kit for my Kirkey seat. He has done all the fabrication and welding for my car and does excellent work, including my dump tube, manifild, downpipe, intercooler setup.. LOL the list goes on.

I also think those bars coming down from the main hoop to the tunnel are welded to a plate on the tunnel like mentioned above.
