NDRA Pro Racer poll
With a 16 car field it gives more people the oppurtunity to race and not just lose in the first round. With the added chance of someone redlighting or breaking, it also leaves more room for upsets, which is good and bad it just depends on who broke. I think it is a good idea and I think in the mentioned classes that it will be received well.

It gives more chances for an upset, and most everyone likes to see an underdog win
The quicker cars can take it a little easier in the early rounds
There are very valid arguements for both sides.......I think the top 8 people and their crews would want an 8 car field, but the rest of the field and the fans would rather see 16
welcome to H-T!

I think a 16 car field for Pro Stock is a must have. That class always has the most cars and I feel like there are really going to be a lot more cars running Pro Stock this year.
You know the 8 car field will be full every race. If 15-20 cars start showing at the races and only 8 are making the field, the guys who can't qualify on a regular basis are going to quit coming. Its going to be a competitive class for sure.

16 car field. not all hot rod class hopefuls have the budget to compete against Castrol, or other big $ teams. But to just make the hotrod field, and get a little exposure makes all the late nights working on the car with the buddies almost feel worth it....
I like the idea of a 16 car field if it does not dilute the payouts. However it does take all the drama out of qualifying. Most events last year did not have 16 cars in HotRod.

I completely agree!
Also, Its no fun to drive long distances to be knocked out first round... Not all of us are sponsored... But we still want to race...

I think you will be really lucky to fill a 16 car hot rod field. Real lucky. NDRA should be able to figure this out by seeing how many racers showed up last year to all their races. Then call up others to confirm they are going to their races.
All motor on the other hand is real easy. Can you believe it, at NHRA Pomona you had 26, countem 26 all motor people qualifying for a 16 car field. Cut off was a 10.90 for the field. Nutz.
In an NHRA domestic event, you have like 40 to 60 people competing for an 16 car field in Super Gas class.

Hey Ron, thanks for the input. I agree 100%. We did however have cases where we sent 8 or more racers home from each class. In Fontana, we sent 16 cars home from these 2 classes. So what do You tell those guys? In a perfect world, all of the sanctioning bodies would fill all the classes. But, the point is, we send cars home at every race in those 2 classes
would it be reasonable to set the field based on the number of entrants at each event?
I can definitely see the lack of continuity, but just throwing out ideas

Then i would base it by market according to the location of the event.
If a particular location is known for let's say a full hot rod field or a full all motor field then I would base it according to location. If you throw an event in Englishtown or Atco or Florida, those areas for sure would be full 16 car fields in both classes. It depends.
If you are throwing a race in area where there is not so many competitors then the fields should shrink to eight. As I said again it depends on the demographic area.

brainstorming is good..........
kinda OT......but I think a points system for the street classes would add excitement also......even if there is no (or little) monetary prize; just being the 'champion' would mean alot to some people and give them motivation to attend more races. Maybe you should start another thread Glen to ask the people who race there about it.
