Modified class rules revisions announced
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
07.08.2005
Following research and feedback from competitors, manufacturers and engine builders, the NHRA Rules Committee announces the following mid-year rule changes for the Modified class.
All changes are effective July 11, 2005.
1. The maximum single turbocharger size on 6 cylinder engines decreases from 74 mm to 66 mm, where the maximum compressor housing inducer diameter is 67.25 mm or 2.648 inches. All other single turbo dimensions are unchanged.
2. The maximum twin turbocharger size on 6 cylinder engines decreases from 58 mm to 52 mm, where the maximum compressor housing inducer diameter is 53.50 mm or 2.106 inches. All other twin turbo dimensions are unchanged.
3. Change 4 cylinder, RWD weights to the following:
2.4 liter max = 2,000 pounds
2.6 liter max = 2,200 pounds
2.8 liter max = 2,400 pounds
“The variety of engine combinations available to competitors in Modified is a hallmark of the class,” said Competition Director Jim Skelly. “However, that same variety also presents additional challenges in terms of rules making. We’re confident these latest changes will provide even greater competition for the fans and competitors during the second half of 2005.”
“We’re looking at some other things for Modified,“ continued Skelly. “Possibly a maximum displacement on 6 cylinder engines of only 3.2 or 3.25 liter instead of the current 3.5 liter. However, we’ll evaluate these latest changes before making any additional decisions.”
