slipping is riding the clutch out of the hole. preloading is finding the point where the car starts to move by letting out the clutch. at that point yank the ebrake, and use it to creep the car into the beams.

you do this to minimize the stress on the drivetrain. if you just go up and floorboard the gas and dump the clutch, your input shaft shocks the hell out of the main, which hits the counter, which hits the final drive which in turn beats the snot out of the inner cv joints.

i have been preload launching at 8200 with 7-8 psi built off of the 2 step on 24.5 slicks, damn sfwd rule, but havent lost an axle on a launch yet. knocks on wood. did break one on a 1-2 shift.

i know plenty of guys running 500+ whp on napa axles. it is doable. but preloading is the key, and a twin disc clutch doesnt hurt either. it also depends on your launch rpm. mine is so high because i have a b16 and a huge *** turbo, i dont think stock axles will like an 8200 rpm launch preloaded or not. although i did break my gator stage 3 mod on a 1-2 full throttle shift.

i dont want to yell at ya, but some people take offense to all caps typing. you can turn them off.

launch: 7400-7500.
air pressure: 6-7psi
60': 1.64
Slicks: 22" tall x 8" wide 13" inch wheels.
23'' slicks would probably be good for a short geared tranny like yours...
im using stock axles and always have been since i did my swap 4 1/2 years ago. no issues to date.

personally i dont use the e brake to preload but i do have the clutch out enough to where my car feels like it wants to move, the car doesnt move but it's close to it. never had any axle or tranny problems. *crossing fingers*...
hope that helps...

first of all, thanks for the explanation
I did a search on this cause Im a little nervous about breaking axles and what not, plus Im not familiar w/ preloading.

Question- at the point where you pull the ebrake up, you hold it up, correct? Til you're ready to go? And then you just dump the clutch, etc ? I know its a simple concept but I confuse myself
