how much do dynapacks cost
Tuning aside, for R&D, a loaded dyno is an invaluable tool, and the repeatability of the hub dyno's are unquestionable.
We have the Dynocom DC-POD's, which are similar to the Dynapack in that it is also a hub dyno, but uses an Eddy Retarder rather than Hydraulics. Is also slightly lower cost, with the base 2WD coming in at $40k.

The word "accurate" should not be used in the sense that many of you use it when it comes to dynamometers.
What's the most "repeatable?" The DynaPack, hands down.
As far as price is concerned, yes, they are a bit more expensive (our particular 3000 2WD model ran a hair over $60,000), but they are worth every penny.

Thanks for the info, I was just looking for some insight as to what is what in the sense of dynamometers.
My advice to anyone looking to buy a Dynapack that is going to do 800+ hp cars, buy the Dynapack 4000, as you will max out the 3000's torque limits..
I bought a Dynojet brand new about 6-7 years ago, and hated it, I had nothing but problems with that crappy rpm pickup.. I sold the Dynojet to stoopid once the warranty was up, and bought a Dynapack.. The Dynapack was a great choice for me, and I'm not sure I'd buy another brand, unless I was doing a wide variety of cars and trucks, then I would look into the Dyno Dynamics units..

So for all you above ground dyno owners which one would you chose right off the bat if you had a chance to do it all over. Which features do you recommend and which feature is a wasit of time and money. The dyno will mostly be used on fwd imports.
Anyone else running the land and sea dynos? How good are these dyno companies warranties, i've heard of them fixing dynos (dynapack) and still having to shell out 4-5k to cover maintenance even under warranty? I'd kill myself if I spent 60k and had to still cover warranty repair :S.
The only warranty issue I ever had with my DynaPack was taken care of next day by DynaPack USA, which had parts overnight shipped to me from New Zealand, free of charge.

I've never been sent a repair bill from Dynapack, and I bought my dyno used from a shop in Canada.. I have paid for software upgrades that had features that I wanted, but there is no maintenance fee that I have ever heard of..
If I was to do it all over again, and I was just doing FWD Honda's like I do now, I'd start by buying a Dynapack first.
If I was just doing dyno day events and a wide variety of vehicles, I'd buy a Dyno Dynamics.

I have a dastek roling road.. It has a n eddycurrent electromagnetic brake and can do stedy state and inertia runs.. The things I am missing is the abilety to log stuff along with the powergraf and rpm. I can do that with other gismoes outside the dyno but it would be easy and nice to have it built in the dyno hard and software that most newer typ of dynos has..
Also a feture that for me anyway is very importante if I had the funds to buy a new dyno would be to have the break controll the acceleration of the rolers.. Controled sweps.. As I understand most dynos just use their inside inirtia when sweps are made.. That is not very good for highpower turbo cars when the boost comes on hard..
Steady state and controled sweps and log capabileties.. The rest is just personal prefereances.. hub style or rolers etc..
The dynocom that M factory has was very intresting.. I like the eddy current type that have very few moving parts and hardly any wear at all.. if it can do controled sweps and steady state i think that would be a very nice choice just by looking at it on the net..
