Default help with suspension setup

Well I'm getting ready to tear my car down a little for some winter upgrades and thought I should get some insight on suspension and improving my 60's and E.T.

1985 Honda CRX HF drag only mostly bracket racing
car with me in it is 2065 lbs.
b16 turbo hopefully making about 400 hp by spring 09
m&h 23x8x13 slicks @ 10 psi and skinnies on the back
tokico illuminas all around set on 5 in rear and 4 up front
ground control springs at 400 lbs.
custom made traction bars up front adjusted so that the bar is pulling the lower control arm towards the front of the car (not sure that is right)
stock torsion bars up front

i was thinking of doing some limit straps because the car lifts a tad off the line. it also falls on its nose between shifts.

anybody have any ideas of what i could do with what i have? can buy parts, but not much after market support for 1st gen crx.

best run to date is:

1.904 60'
5.254 330
7.950 1/8
89.45 mph
10.273 1000'
12.21 ET
115.99 mph

have had a few 1.8?? 60's but nothing impressive. any help would be greatly appreciated.

isn't the lifting just a characteristic of Torsion Bars in those cars?

I can tell you what the PM said, Ryan and I have been telling the guy's here they need to call Progress Auto. Talk with Joey and he'll set you up with Ed there shock designer. He help'ed Ryan get our car set up so it transfer'd the weight but didn't drop the nose, with or without whelie bar. Some guy's just don't listen and go with an one size fit's all, off the shelf set up.

http://www.progressauto.com/ryansmith.html

Contact them, tell them Ryan sent you, you won't be dissappointed with the performance of there set up.

hey thanks guys, especially rota92 for the PM. i will give them a call. hopefully they can offer something for this old school bucket. lol

as far as the torsion bars inherently causing lift, i think its sprung weight just like any other suspension. i can not see how that would cause it to lift more than coilovers. i am not an engineer but i feel like my shock valving is wrong and possibly not enough "spring rate" on the front torsion bars. i think they are too loaded. anyway, time to call in the pros .

Well the good news is, Progress is on the ball with customer service. The bad news (for me anyway) is they can not do much for me other than change spring rates in the rear. I still may play with that a bit, but I think I would be better off moving to a newer chassis. Sucks because I really like my old school bucket. Oh well, I'll beat up on this one another year and see what happens.

Thanks again guys!

if you can still find them, I have good luck with my lightspeed 27mm torsion bars in the front of my 1st gen. I had 27mm torsion bars up front, with a home made sturt/spring combo. you can custom build a coilover for the front, but you'll have to do it yourself. for the back you can use koni yellows with ground control coilovers, but you have to mount them upside down.

I don't know if it will help, but you can also check with some of the guys over at http://www.g1teg.org - they use the same suspension set up as the crx/civics pre 88.

g2k, thanks man. i'll look into it. i did not know i could run konis in the rear. diy seams to be deal with this car anyway so i might try building some custom coilovers up front.

not a prob, I know I had a lot of problems trying to find parts for my old 1st gen. you learn to make alot of things yourself, or customize parts from other cars to work for you.
