grinding down stripped interior useful?
ive stripped my whole interior in my EG. i saw some pictures of other cars with misc. interior fitting grinded off for a clean look. is it worth doing to save weight? this is gonna be a semi-daily driver(2-3 day a week, avg. 40 miles a week). im just worried that doing so may drastically decrease my safey. i dont have much regards to the car(its a pos with lotsa ghettoness to it).i was thinking bout grinding off the excess connections of metal between the body and the frame plus a possible paint job for the interior. should i grind off the extra material?
I wouldn't start grinding off metal to save weight. Not only can it be dangerous, but your not going to shave enough weight to make a difference, especially if its not a dedicated track car.
I stripped my interior bare, removed the sound deadening material (only so I could get my 6pt. bar installed) and I would wager that I only saved about 10-15 pounds getting rid of that material, and the rubber foam on the firewall.
If you want a really clean paint job, then go ahead and buy some dry ice to get all that gunk off the floor. Good luck.
