ok, a helmet and a one layer jacket will suffice for now. once you get to 9.99 or 135+ mph, youll need a triple layer jacket and pants (or just a once piece suit) along with gloves and neck collar....and of course a roll cage/window net that is certed.

as for the helmet, i get a little confused, but anything faster than 11.50, i believe you need a full face helmet, but it might be faster than 10.99. mikey(boostedcivicsir) will correct me if im wrong. snell sa or m sfi spec helmets are accepted with your e.t. and mph.

so there is no new rule this year stating anyone running a turbo needs a fire suit/pants and not just the fire jacket?

Shouldn't you say "Hopefully you won't need it one day,"?

Mike, contact your local track, they can tell you what you'll need. Or buy a NHRA rule book.
There should also be a contact button for your division on their web site. For the exact rule ask the rule makers.

Call Bob Blackwell Tech Director, West Central Division, 816-795-8055; fax 816-795-0515

this rule mostly pertains to nhra divisional/national events and only certain classes. and is very very lame. you can race a 12sec superstocker and you must wear pants, but if you race a 9 sec stock eliminator no pants are needed. does not make any sense to me.

Whatever the NHRA rules say, you must comply with.

What he's saying is that within some class breakdowns for actual NHRA sanctioned events there are different rules.

It's based on the types of cars people are racing and the general safety affiliated with such car.

If you put a lenco in your 16 second car, you'll need a scatter shield by default. But an OEM trans in your 12.0 car is fine without it.

Stuff like that.

Just buy a damn pair of pants

that depends on the track, i went to IFO at atl which is a full throttle track and they made sure i had a jacket and helmet, right seat belts and the cage as well as normal car stuff, but didnt say anything when i went over 135 at a 10.3. They usually wont unless you go and do it in a car without a cage and other obvious **** then they raise hell.

yea, i get that... so do the nhra rules say i need pants? (lets say for a test n tune)... and no that doesnt depend on the nhra track. rules are rules.. its just some tracks are more relaxed on the rules lol..

i dont even have a roll bar or cage and im using some old $20 helmet lol...im really just lookin for a straight answer for some buddies of mine.

The track i Test n tune at is not an NHRA track, i could go there and run a 9 and 155 with just a pair of shorts and a t shirt as long as i have a helmet on.

im not sure for slower than 9.99 x 135, but at that point you need a full face. they wouldnt let me make my last lic run w/o one.

thanks mikey for clearing that up.

as for the fire pants rule and a turbo car, i do not see that anywhere in the rulebook like i mentioned before. im double checking all the "safety wear" pages right now. but in about 5 more mph, youll need them...dont limit yourself

09 rule book says to 10.00 open face ok.
10.00-13.99 all non oe turbo super/nitrous cars woth oem or .024 firewall need jacket meeting 3.2a1 manditory. get a jacket.
t/s/n w/o factory firewall all cars require 3.2a5 jacket and 3.3/1 gloves.

basically in a closed bodied car, n/a you are fine to 11.49 at which you need a bar and a single layer jacket.

if you are boosted, 10-13.00 you need a single layer jacket.

and at 9.99 and 135 you need multi payer pants, jacket, gloves, collar anyway.

oh you need long pants regardless.

please correct me if i am wrong or the rules updated.

As far as i know. Any AFTERMARKET, Meaning if your car did not come from the FACTORY with a turbo, supercharger or nitrous you must have a approved jacket, any kind of long pants and a approved helmet

personally, a single layer jacket isnt that bad. i always wore one anyway in my turbo t. the civic was always slow and na til i started with this turbo anyway so i never needed a jacket til i went turbo at which needed a multi anyway.

hmm yea, i know the 09 rules... but i heard this was a new 2010 rule regarding the fire pants to go along with this rule as you stated:

"10.00-13.99 all non oe turbo super/nitrous cars woth oem or .024 firewall need jacket meeting 3.2a1 manditory."

im not just asking for myself, im asking for a bunch of other friends as well..
