Default Drag Suspension discussion thread

I would like to have a thread for suggested suspension setups for drag racing application.

I recall seeing a few threads over the years on corner balance and alignment settings that are preferred for drag racing setups. Those threads were very helpful, there have always been a lot of people here willing to lend advice to others on what has worked for them through experience. However never have I seen a thread where people talked about what actual suspension parts they use or prefer.....

Any constructive discussion is helpful.

Some of the specific things I would like to know are;

What brand coilovers do you run on your drag car?

What spring rates do you prefer and why?

What control arms and bushings do you run and prefer?

Anyone with real data to compare the advantages they have achieved by using one setup over another? (IPG parts did a good write up on their experience with blox coilovers here http://www.ipgparts.net/blog/product...world-testing/ )

What 60 ft times are you achieving with your setup? Might be helpful to throw in power level, Diff and trac bar setup for comparison sake since there are tons of factors affecting 60 ft times.

Post away and feel free to discuss. The more info posted the more you may be helping someone in need of advice.

Also what control arms and bushing type would be nice.

when it comes to counterbalancing it seems like you want the highest ratio possible of front to rear weight while keeping left to right balanced with you in the car.

I updated the first post to clarify the purpose I was trying to achieve out of this thread...

We have had threads previously on alignment settings and corner balance preferences. This thread should serve another purpose.

But yes you are right. Cornering balancing preffered settings are something around a 70/30 front/rear weight distribution and even sided to side as possible.

I recall that thread but I believe it was focused on trac bar setups. I am really mainly concerned with the actual coilovers and spring rates people are running.

I think best I ever pulled was a 1.55 on 24.5x9x13 slicks.

Section Silkroad coilovers that I been running for 6 years. 12k/18k springs, traction bar.

We use the D2 Racing RS Coilover System for our SFWD cars. (12k front / 18k rear) It's an affordable coilover system.

From previous post, corner balancing, traction bars, properly applying power, gearset plays a big role on getting those short tracks...

1.51 60s all day with the skunk 2 Pro series with 12k and 18k springs, but i found it very very useful once i got it all balanced out correctly on the scales.

^ I think axle brand will detract from the purpose and would be better left for a thread specifically on that topic... Besides axles themselves have no affect on the way the car launches or 60s as long as they don't break

This is a great thread I will be in the market soon for a drag suspension and really have been looking strongly at the strange engineering setup but have heard that spacers need to be machined because you cannot get enough height? Not sure on this may have been fixed.
Also I am in a crx and noit really sure on the rates to get.
I have called strange and they are very helpful told me the rates that were purchased with the honda/acura setups but are geared more towards rwd drag setups but helpful none the less

Also curious if most guys are pre-loading their springs and what advantages have been seen from this.

I was able to cut a few high 1.6 60's on my ksport coilovers. Un sure of the spring rate, bought them 4 years ago. Mostly low 1.7s on beat 24.5 M&Hs, full race traction bar, Quaife LSD and STOCK motor mounts.

how are those agx's holding up with such a stiff spring? ive heard bad things about the lifespan of a strut when coupled with a very stiff spring rate..

for me on my 3 passes at the track last year:
1.75 60ft's using m&h 24.5x8.5x15's 6500 rpm launch @8-10 psi off the antilag
old omni drags 12k/18k
no traction bar
oem rear control arms with red es inserts in the rears, sagging oem bushings up front

with the car up on jackstands i have the rear springs with about 1mm movement between spring perch and the tophat bushing. flat out i need to make more passes at a good track (not lebanon valley in ny) to tweak with it

Just a question. What class of racing are your referring to? Would this be an all motor class, pro class, sport FWD? Wheelie bars or not to wheelie bar haha

My interest lies in the Forced Induction FWD setups but any discussion or info may be helpful to others who's interest varies....
