Default Do I REALLY need a Scatter Shield?

I was just wondering if this is really needed for someone who goes to the track occasionally? My HP goals are around 315-330whp daily and very close if not 400+ whp on race gas when I go to the track.

Do you have to take off a B series tranny to install, or is this a bolt on to the outside of the transmission case? Sorry for the noob questions, I've only seen a couple of posts about this.

Thanks

P.S. Could this be compared to a block grille (i.e. an extra insurance policy, or something along those lines?)

I bolts to the outside of the trans, its fairly easy to install. And you need it to run 11s.
