Default Damaged slick??

I just bought a set of slicks that have 3-4 passes on them only. I aired up the slicks to see how they look on the car and one had a small hole on the face"TREAD" side of the slick about as big as a ball piont pin....it obviously lets out too much air to use without tubes. I know Mickey Thompson slicks I have are recommended to use tubes, so my question is...can I just put a tube in that slick and still be safe and affective, or do you think the integrity of the slick is F'ed up since there is a small hole? Anyone had this problem?

Thanks

No, with a tube its not gonna matter. A pinhole will not affect the integrity of the slick. A nice gouge or slice in it might but not a pinhole.

So you dont think that eventually the slick would come apart from the abuse?

I did and he said I could send back the slicks and the wheels I bought from him and he would refund my money, but they are Exospeed star 8's and I really want to keep them. He does not really want to refund any money for just the slicks since they still have alot of life let in them and I got the wheels and slicks for a pretty fair price i suppose. Thats why I want to know if I would be okay just running a tube in that slick? UNLESS anybody here has some WELDS with the slicks and wants to make some kind of a trade???

Not gonna happen. You will be fine man. a cirular pinhole will not likely spread out. If it was a cut or gash that went completely through then, yes i would be worried. Not a pinhole though.

I personally wouldn't use that slick with the pinhole on the side of the slick. If it's already not holding air, then obviously you shouldn't use it. A tube will help in the form of only keeping the slick aired up but the damaged sidewall is your main concern. Get a new slick. Safety comes first.

I cut a slick and I just got another one. It's cheaper to buy another slick than replacing a car that you crashed at 150mph.

The pinhole isn't on the side wall, it's on the surface of the slick.

on the surface will be fine, theres no reason 2 buy another slick really think about it what is worst case scenario with a pinhole being there absoulty nothing since you are gonna run tubes

Yeah if the hole were on the side wall I would not be having this discussion....I would have trashed it and got a new one. This slick has the hole on the tread face of the tire.

Oh so slicks are suppose to have holes in them? Thats news to me lol . .

If you are going to spend the money and time to unmount both slicks, buy tubes, remount and re balance them- you might as well just buy 1 new slick and not have to worry about anything.

At the end of the day, no slick is SUPPOSE to have any kind of hole in it. I wouldnt risk my car or my life for a $200 slick. I know its an extreme example, but thats just my opinion.

I can't believe this many people have said to buy a new slick without mentioning that slicks are bought in pairs, so they have the same runout.

I'v seen people do this too but I wouldnt trust a patch at 150mph myself.
I would think a tube would be a better option between the two.

See this is what I was thinking as well. If I could just get away with buying one slick for $200 it wouldnt be such a big deal. Even though the guy says they only have about 4 passes on them I doubt they would be very even...

Yeah, they SHOULD be bought in pairs...but try asking Summit for a "Matched Set" and they have no idea what you are talking about unless you get someone that has been around for a while.

I'm sure the forklift guys and packers arent up on this unless a special note is put on an order.

I dont doubt a plug or a tube...its just I'm not sure if I should trust it on a slick. ESPICALLY a plug. haha but I guess that goes to show that is can be done.

plug it from the inside out, and then run a tube this will ensure that a small rock will not put a hole in your tube and it will hold up to the abuse too.

No, I've never tried buying slicks from Summit, and never would. M&H John is readily available online, but then, we know you like big corporate internet stuff. Me > Rick P.
