Default Another Form of Drag Racing...

here is a car we have been working on for a customer lately - full 3/4 chassis, 632 big block engine, g force transmission, quick change rear end, pretty much you name it, it has been done

this car most equates to 1/4 mile drag racing

...but it is a standing mile car - basically 1/4 mile drag racing but for 1 mile and your ET is your Top MPH through the traps at the 1 mile mark

...building this for a customer of ours - finally up and running - working some of the bugs out with it and then we get to tear it all down again, get the car all freshly painted and re-assemble to get ready to compete

car just sounds nasty when it runs, definately a nice change from the usual sport compact engine notes

So how fast does something like that go in 1 mile? Where do they do this?

Does that thing at least have some kind of a halfway aerodynamic front end? I couldn't imagine it being too stable at that speed w/o one! lol

i am sure that is something we will investigate when the car starts doing some real testing, will probably have to come up with some sort of aero package for it..

....or i might just call my boy Hasselhoff and ask him how Kit handled at those speeds cause we know that car hauled ***....

Haha, does that one have the "turbo boosters" button too? "Kit" wasn't the best aerodynamically, remember when he hit the turbo boosters, it would catch air. Definitely not what you want when drag racing. lol

Hey maybe all the supra owners would do pretty good at this type of racing? Do they run from a roll?

Haha, I couldn't help but laugh when I read that. Isn't that going to be the new advantage for SFWD, the turbo booster button?

Cool, this would be an interesting type of event. I always wondered about if they let top fuel or funny cars go longer than 1/4. Of course the current cars wouldn't last more than 1/4 now but if you pointed the teams at the goal of lasting a mile I'm sure they would find a way. A mile probably isn't too good for spectators in stands though. Keep us updated n this one for sure

Over in the UK we do this kind of racing too.

We did do 1.25 miles from a standing start but now its also 1 mile

We combine 1/4 mile, 1 mile top speed runs & a auto-x track all in one event!

My old CRX did 152.6mph with a stock b16 with bolt-ons & a 35hp shot of gas

The fastest cars here (turbo'd Viper, skylines, etc) do around 200mph tho I'm sure that will go up

Is there any Turbo'd Hondas doing this racing in the US???

The aim with my new car is to break 170mph!

I would really like to gain some real life information from anyone doing this

170mph is totally doable in a honda. Hell, Keller damn near did that in the 1/4 mile.

The main thing im worried about is the motor holding together for 1 mile of WOT

Plenty of the turbo cars at these events blow up due to high intake temps

The plan is to run lower boost & a healthy shot of gas to help keep temps down as well as a charge cooler

A good water to air ic setup would maintain very safe temps. I think you'd have a better shot at keeping a motor together with more boost and less or no nitrous. The tune is just more crucial for that amount of time. Either way, it's definitely doable.

Yeah I know the tune is going to have to be 100% spot on I also have a safeguard just incase I do get some det.

I'm open to ideas about not running nitrous but I thought nitrous helped keep things cooler?

Yeh water to air intercooler I guess i'll need a larger than normal water/ice tank to control the heat.

Thanks for the help!

It's K.I.T.T., not "Kit" guys. Come on. Everyone knows it stands for Knight Industries Two-Thousand. Sheesh. Cool car though.

Look at my boy Tyler dropping the knowledge. Don't forget about K.I.T.T's brother K.A.R.R. Knight automated roaming robot . . . He was the bad one.

Hopfully he doesn't wear a necktie while he races. That would suck if he got that caught in the driveshaft.....sorry, i have reached my limit of beers for the night.
