Default 2 step with VTEC?

1988 CRX Si:
B18CR (Intake,Exhaust)
GSR tranny with Quaife LSD
CC 8 lb flywheel/Exedy clutch
Skunk2 Pro-S coilover kit
ETD traction bar
Lenso's with M&H 22 inch slicks

Ok I just finished the car 2 weeks ago and all I am waiting on is my drag slicks to show up so I can hit the track. I know very little about VTEC and racing a FWD car in general. I am a Mustang guy for the most part.

I was thinking about installing an ignition box with an adjustable rev limiter for more consistant launches as I will be bracket racing this car. From what I have read you want to launch in VTEC and stay in VTEC.

I believe this engine hits VTEC at 5700rpms. Will the engine remain in VTEC while on the limiter if I set it at say 6500-7000 rpms for the launch.

I dont want to spend the money if VTEC is going to kick out while on the launch limiter.

Thanks,

in a stock ecu setup you will need to see speed I think 6mph for it to kick in! With hondata s300 you can put the speed for vtec @ zero and you can launch in vtec.

That is the kind of knowledge I was looking for. I am staying OBD2A for a while cause I have alot to learn before I start tuning.

I think I still need a launch limiter for consistancy. I guess I'll have to find the sweet spot through trial and error.

Thanks,

Thanks,
With Hondata you can now get an ecu with obd2a sockets already installed into the ecu and it can be a plug and play setup...

Hondata s300 is a very good program you will be very happy with it..

Ok I looked it up. I have an OBD0 to OBD2A harness adapter that plugs into the factory B18CR ECU. The Hondata ECU with the OBD2A sockets already installed would replace the facory ECU correct? I would then be able to run Hondata S300 and even have my engine tuned even though its OBD2A or does this convert me to OBD1 somehow?

Does the Hondata ECU come with a base map?

I am very mechanicly inclined but the electronics scare me. Lol

It would make you obd1 but if you needed to go back to obd2 you can just plug in your ecu. A base map is simple as hell. I can help you with it.
